Re: HORRIBLE (Reply to this comment)
by happygrandpare
I've had Scrubing Bubbles for 4-5 yrs. This is my 5th one & it's lasted over a yr. now. Yes, it drains batteries, & yes, when I have to replace the batteries I have to take it out, take out the cleaner & empty the machine, then lay it in the sink to dry during the day. It must be 100% dry before putting new batteries in. But I have found out the machine itself will last longer if you slightly twist, & I mean slightly, the area where the spray comes out - it clogs up with the cleaner (kind if like if you left some bleach dry out in an open container - crystalizes), so daily use is a necessity - don't skip a shower, or at least run the shower for 30-60 seconds then turn on the machine (shouldn't have to do this but experience has taught me somewhat of a lesson). About 2 months ago I had handicap bars (metal) put in as my mother was coming to visit & it was a necessity for her. The cleaner does put brown marks on the bars & the bars MUST be wiped off some after every spray. I didn't do this for the first couple wks & now I can't get all the spots off, have used jewelry cleaner, Never Dull, etc. - nothing works. If this machine gets some TLC it will last quite a long time - you can't just spray & forget the machine itself. I have a tub/shower combo & bent the hanger so I could hang it on the sliding doors & all of the shower gets sprayed & I rarely have to clean my tile or tub...I can go months.

Dear Scrubbing Bubbles, (Reply to this comment)
by catl0v3r
You guys are so cute on TV. I was only mildly disappointed when the bubbles didnt really look like you - same disappointment I felt as a kid when those little sea monkeys didnt look like the little nude pictures on the box.
Last year, we purchased the Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner. After watching the commercials and discussing it between us, we decided this was the way to go. Well, Ive watched the little gadget do its thing, and Ive got to say you folks are onto something
Something along the lines that theres a sucker born every minute, perhaps?
Pretty amazing, really - those little droplets of cleaner clean in little spots on the shower and curtain, betting on the odds that eventually there will be a cleaned spot overlapping another cleaned spot that overlaps another cleaned spot and so on and so forth until the clean spots run into each other appearing to have cleaned the entire shower.
Ok, so we fell for it, we bought it, we used it. And, I clean the shower as before, once or twice a week, just to get the spots between the spots
Now, onto the second issue. Recently, weve been seeing the Automatic Shower Cleaner advertised with a shower caddy! What? A shower caddy? Thats just what we need! In order to hang up the Automatic Shower Cleaner, we had to give up the shower caddy we had hanging there. It was a really nice one, too. It kept the shampoo bottles from slipping off the edge of the tub and smashing toes. It kept the shaving cream from sitting on the edge of the tub and rusting - something, weve discovered, Scrubbing Bubbles actually speeds up! Oh, sure, we could move everything out of the shower before running the Automatic Shower Cleaner, but, then, thatd be lots more work. Ive asked my husband to shave more often so we can go through these cans of shaving cream more quickly thus cutting down on the rusting of the cans and the rings they leave behind. It hasnt worked. Hes still not shaving on weekends and has kept a full beard more than not.
Incidentally, Scrubbing Bubbles dont clean up after themselves - those rust rings are not removed by those little guys.
Sincerely,
Seeing Spots

Re: Love It! (Reply to this comment)

Hi. I also use Scrubble Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner and love it, too. I also have shower doors and when I first used it, I wondered how the inside doors could be used. Before I got it, I used to use the original Windex glass cleaner. That used to do a decent job, but when I got the automatic shower, the Windex did work. I tried others, but those didn't work, either. Then I thought about the Scrubbing Bubbles sprayer that I always used for the toilets, sinks, etc. I sprayed that on the inside glass and it worked like a charm!!! Use that and you'll love your shower even more!

I was hesitant to spend the money, but finally got tired of trying to keep my glass shower doors clean -- my kids refuse to squeegie.
My glass doors look GREAT! I do have to wipe down the OUTSIDE of the doors occasionally... I wish they'd invent something that would clean the other side too!

I don't know about you but MINE worked great... (Reply to this comment)
by msknow-it-all
I'm confused about the negative posts on the Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner.
I am the furthest thing from a clean freak. It's not that I wouldn't love my home to be presentable and spotless at all times, but with a full time business, I don't have the time to devote to more that a once a month "surface cleaning".
So when I actually hung my unit in the shower for the first time, I had little hope that it would make a dent to the...and I'm almost embarrassed to say...year plus of muck that had built up. But it DID.
It took roughly 3 weeks, but the shower was back to a nearly pristine, white state. The mold and mildew was gone from all the caulking, out of every corner. It even cut through the year plus of soap scum. Though at first glance, even after so many weeks, it wasn't apparent. Because of the spray, it does leave a film on shower doors. So what I thought was still scum, simply wiped away with Windex and a paper towel.
I've bought them as presents for friends this Christmas. If I have any negative at all, it would be that you do go through the liquid refill bottles fairly quickly. But we do spray daily, so I suppose it would depend on how often you shower.
All in all, the cost is a tad on the high side, but the assembly is simple, the product easy to use, the results speak for themselves, and you have a fresh smelling bathroom...every day. That's a triple plus in my book.

I started with a mostly clean shower and if you run it about every two days or every day after using the shower it will keep the shower pretty clean. You should remove shampoo bottles and other items in the shower for the cleaner to be able to spray everywhere. I liked it enough to buy another one. I got the second one with a coupon from the web site combined with and a sale 18.00 - $7.00 coupon) for 11 dollars.
You do need to follow the instructions and use Vaseline on the ends of the batteries to prevent them from corrosion.
I will continue to use this product as long as I can get the clearer refills at a reasonable price.

surprised (Reply to this comment)
by tupibird
I was really surprised by how well this product worked for me. I've read all the bad reviews and I wonder if I just happened to get lucky, but I didn't experience any of the bad issues other people described. I liked the way it cleaned old hard water stains from my tile, the grout is white and has never mildewed since I've used the shower cleaner. It doesn't reach "all" the spots in the shower, but it reaches most so that when I do a more thorough cleaning, my work is cut by 3/4. We've worn out one unit, bought another to replace it, and have one in both our showers. I have recommended this product to several people, and I hope they realize that you have to use it for a while to see a difference.

I like mine A LOT! (Reply to this comment)
by candall
I read the bad reviews, but I've always liked Scrubbing Bubbles products and my tub is horrible to clean so I took a chance. I love it! I think in the demos, they just let the spray shoot around a dry shower and then conclude that the product only cleaned adequately in one place. You have to have all the warm steamy water from the shower running down to mix with the product in order for it to work. But work, it does.
I have an oddly-shaped molded tub/shower in bright lipstick red and it always looked kind of soap scummy, but now the whole unit is shiny fresh and the shower doors are perfectly transparent again. There's a patch of mold goo underneath the soap ledge and the water tends to drip off the ledge instead of running down over it, so I've been using that as my test spot. At the end of the first bottle of cleaner, the patch is almost gone. I could easily reach in and swipe at it, but I'm enjoying watching the progress of the shower cleaner. It also makes the bathroom smell terrific. I bought a second one yesterday with the $5 coupon from the first box. I like it--it works and it's fun. High five, Scrubbing Bubbles!

I was really going to buy this thing tomorrow when I go do my groceries but after reading this review, I think I might not afterall. I too have a mildew issue due to the fact that I have no exhaust fan in my bathroom. I will stick to using my Lysol. Thanks.

Flat out - it sucks (Reply to this comment)
by VTMom
I purchased one of these modern marvels back in July. I'd scrubbed my shower/tub combo from top to bottom first as the directions stated may help it work best.
I agree with Pippa. It doesn't reach all areas (read the Consumer Report from a couple months ago, they tested it to the max putting down newspapers to see which areas received the cleaner.)
My more troublesome issue started in Sept. The unit developed a slow drip. I'd go in periodically and rinse off the fixture it was dripping on. In late Sept., the chrome plating on my tub spout was dissolving. It needs replacing now as the chrome is gone. I trashed the unit immediate and wrote a letter to Scrubbing Bubbles... no word back yet.
I've read all it says for warnings--
Is Scrubbing Bubbles® Automatic Shower Cleaner safe to use on most shower/tub surfaces?
Yes. Scrubbing Bubbles® Automatic Shower Cleaner can be used in most standard showers, including fiberglass, acrylic, and plastic shower stalls and shower/tub enclosures. Scrubbing Bubbles® Automatic Shower Cleaner is also safe for use on plastic and synthetic shower curtains. Over time, it may lighten natural fabrics such as cotton. Do not use Scrubbing Bubbles® Automatic Shower Cleaner in showers with brass fixtures, natural marble, or finished wood surfaces. Rinse surfaces well if the cleaner is accidentally sprayed on these surfaces.
It doesn't say anything about chrome fixtures, but be warned if you are using it that it can happen. My plastic shower curtain is also showing a distinct pattern of wear in the same strip of area that the cleaner reaches.
If it can do this to my fixtures and shower curtain, I can only imagine what it could do to skin!

Sounded too good to be true (Reply to this comment)
by myrnapap
Thank you for this review. The product sounded just too good to be true. I can't imagine there is anything that can easily ward off mold/mildew in a shower that stays damp.
I had thought about trying this product since I do like their scrubbing bubbles cleaner, but I'm glad I read your review because I have shower doors and chemical use on these will nullify the warranty. I would not have realized that before.
One suggestion if I may - we've avoided the mold/mildew issue for the most part by wiping down the shower after each use. We keep an old towel handy for this. It takes very little time (about the time you might dry off anyway) and keeps the shower dry. It also helps keep it cleaner.
Thanks again.

waste of $30 (Reply to this comment)
by rgulled3
Don't waste your money. I've been using it daily for 2 weeks and I'm getting my cleaning supplies together so I can go in and scrub my tub and shower doors. It may spray 360 degrees around but it doesn't hit any of the farther walls. Back to muscle power.

Surprised by bad review (Reply to this comment)
by oober
I tested the Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner over 4 years ago and used it for approx. 3 months. I loved it! - did not clean my shower for the entire time, and had been waiting for it to be offered. (Had to return the unit to the company after testing.) I was beginning to think they had decided not to make this product and was excited to see commercials that it was now for sale.
I'm hoping they didn't change the cleaner in the product that had worked so well in the test unit. I was living in an old home at the time (circa 1920s) with poor ventilation and very hard water. I had started out with a clean shower and not once did I have to clean it.
Now I live in an even older house with no exhaust fan. Have a slight problem battling mold/mildew in winter and wet weather and still have hard water. I bought a unit at Sam's last night- comes with 4 bottles of cleaner and batteries for only $24.
If it doesn't work I'm going to be disappointed but really hoping for the same success as when I did the testing.

A lifetime of disappointment (Reply to this comment)
by garthsworld
Thanks so much for the review on this. The lazy half of me (OK, it's more than half) was about to run out and get one of these. It does sound as though ventilation could help your problem, but after looking at the website for this gizmo I would have assumed that at least it would have killed and/or stopped anything that it's spray hit from having stuff grow on it. Disappointed once again by these folks.... ages and ages ago (I won't tell how many years it really has been) when I sprayed their scrubbing bubbles on my tub in my first apartment and it just sat there. (Mom would have never gotten anything like that.. she believed in elbow grease as the best cleaner). Not that I expected the little bubbles to get up on their whirling brushes and woosh around the tub, but at least a fizzle or something!

Yikes, I was "this close" to ordering it. (Reply to this comment)
by datadame
Just saw my first commercial on this product and, like others, was dazzled by the idea of not having to scrub my shower anymore.
My situation isn't as bad as pippadaisy's, although there are some similarities - older home, no ventilation in the bathroom. There's not too much of a mold/mildew problem, though - what I want to get rid of is soap scum and the general drek that hangs around after showering. I might try it, just to see how it does on that. If I do, I'll post here with the results.
The SCJ website's price of $40 for the unit, 4 batteries, 4 bottles of "stuff", and $20 in coupons looked pretty good. I looked around at big box places' websites (Target, Walmart), and searched for it "wherever" on Google, but I guess it's not out yet.
I just so want it to be "true"... y'know?

Clarification on my comment (Reply to this comment)
by bryanska
I clicked the button that rated your review "not helpful". I considered it inaccurate, because the sequence of events doesn't make sense to me.
I should clarify my question: did your husband use the cleaner? From the review, I can only tell he was sick of the experiment. So I didn't actually know that the cleaner was used on the first try.
And the second-try paragraph. Did the mildew scrub work, and then disciplined use of the machine failed to work? I must assume so. Can you add some detail?

Re: Huh? (Reply to this comment)
by pippadaisy
Odd that you are the only person who didn't understand my review, and I can only assume that since I pointed out that I'd had to change the bottle out, you missed that section where we actually did use the thing.
In addition, you rated my review Not Helpful, which the FAQ suggests be used for reviews that are "off-topic, inaccurate, offensive, or copied from another source." I guess I'm missing where my review is any of those things.
I don't know how much clearer I was supposed to be with the review. We used a trusty product to clean the bathroom, tried this one again, and it still didn't work. Other than providing a day-by-day reporting of the growth of mold and mildew in my shower when using this product, I don't know what else I can say about it.

Huh? (Reply to this comment)
by bryanska
So did it work or not?
Your husband got sick of the experiment. Does that mean he didn't press the button daily? That's what the sotry implies. In that case, the failure isn't the product's fault. Please explain.
And the "once again" paragraph. Did the mildew scrub work, and then disciplined use of the machine failed to work? If that's the case, please write it out.
As is, I can't understand the sequence of causes and effects from the story.
