| maggsmomm's Full Review: Stain Pen |
I'm always looking for an easier way to get rid of clothing stains. I have three school aged children who come home each day covered in ink, pencil, food, dirt, you name it-if it's out there they will find it.
I've tried every stain remover imaginable. On the go stain removers are a little *out there* for children, although I do take the Tide Stain Pen with me to remove stains instantly. Everything else gets *Shouted* out & thrown into the laundry. I simply do not have time to erase every stain with a instant, portable, stain remover.
I was excited to try the simply WOW Stain Pen until I read the directions on the back on the label.
You roll it on to the stain and allow it to dry. Then you use water to remove the stain. This sounds really tedious, and if I had that much time I would use a very inexpensive household mixture to remove the stain. I hadn't even used it yet and I was already frustrated.
Another question I had was how was it portable if you needed to allow it to dry and then use water?
My biggest stain problem is ink & red mud on my kids uniforms. So this was my obvious choice for it's first use. I used the pen as directed but had major problems with the pens roller. It was coming out one side and not the other making it uneven. Essentially not covering the entire stain but more of my child's skirt. It took twice as long doing this as it would just squirting it and throwing it into my washer.
Next was waiting for it to dry. 15 minutes later the stain and the remover was dry so I could use water to remove the ink. I wiped as the instructions stated. Stain still there. I took the pen and rolled it on to the stain again, only this time I hit every mark on my daughter's uniforms and threw them, wet with stain remover, into the washer.
The stains came out.
The purpose of this stain remover is that it is portable. I have found that no matter the stain it really doesn't work very well, if at all if used as directed. It really isn't great for on the go. I have found however that for use at home like I would any other regular stain remover it works about the same when not using as the directions state.
I didn't care for the design of the pen with the roller head since it was messy and rolled out uneven. I didn't like that you needed to allow it to dry, then use water to remove the stain. And I strongly disliked the stain not coming out after all that work.
This just didn't cut it (no pun intended) as a remover i'd use frequently if at all. I would like to add that on the product packaging it states clearly, although in very small font: "Stain Pen will not remove every stain, every time, no product will." and they are correct.
I would like to mention that the majority of the stain removers I use remove almost all of the stains, almost all of the time whereas theirs removes hardly any stains most of the time. I do not recommend this product.
Thanks to Source Holdings, Inc for a trial of this product in exchange for my opinion.
