rambling but well-intentioned (Reply to this comment)

The reviewer doesn't use or own the sub woofer (s) being reviewed. Kind of hard to have credibility that way.

No description of the sound. (Reply to this comment)

I'm really concerned in trying to figure you out. I think your intentions are good, but when your key descriptions of sound are "awesome" and "amazing", repeated several times throughout your reviews, I begin to question your ability to be a good judge of sound, much less someone that I would want to guide an expensive purchase.

Brands (Reply to this comment)

Sure JBL may be a good brand, but what about alternatives?
Yamaha
REL
Kenwood
Sony
B&W
Mission
KEF
Tannoy
Each of the above have made a go for the subwoofer market why not mention them too? REL especially have made some cheap subs in the past as they pride themselves on subwoofers only.
Yamaha is another who make VERY cheap subs, which sound great.
You should note that bass sound should be equal to that of which is produced by speakers in he system.
Also, the sound should be punchy or sharp, not thumpy or pounding. Increasing volume of a sub dramatically decreases its low level output:
A 10" might not reach 30Hz at high volumes requiring more physical movement. While a 12" can produce the same, it needs less movement. Headphones are allegedly able to produce low frequencies, all they do it create it on a small scale.
