Do you need great sound at a great price? Have I got a kit for you? Yes, a kit that includes everything you need to upgrade that aging sound system installed in you computer.
This kit includes everything you need, sound blaster live sound card, creative 48x cd-rom and a set of ok sounding speakers. IDE cable, audio cable, and tones of software…..Included!
I’m talking about the Creative sound blaster live value 48x model MK4147 multimedia kit.
As you know the SB live has wave table synthesis, an excellent affects engine, environmental E-mu positional audio technology. Giving the system the best sound quality for the price.
Installation: a snap for a seasoned technician like myself, however, if you don’t know what you are doing have a professional install the system for you or you run the risk of zapping your whole system.
Performance: I liked everything but the speakers. The sound card itself is the best I ever tested. But those speakers have to go. The soft pack is one of the best ever shipped with a creative product.
After having the thing installed I ran my favorite game, Quake 3 arena!
I was blown away. The high performance sound made me feel as if Sarge was shooting at me. I often found myself looking over my shoulder thinking someone was sneaking up on me. Game play aside, it made my collection of mp3’s sound a lot better, even the poor quality recordings had more depth and feeling, and that is very important to me. The surround sound was quite amazing, pop a dvd into a dvd drive (not included) turn the volume up and sit back for the closest thing to the theatre you can get from a Pc without spending mega bucks.
Minimum requirements:
1. Pentium 133 or better.
2. Microsoft windows 95,98 or NT 4.0.
3. 16 Meg of system ram or better.
4. 365 Meg of free disk space.
5. 3.5 floppy drive.
6. Svga graphics adapter.
7. Free pci slot.
Would I recommend this to a friend? Yes, without hesitation.
Would I give this as a gift? I think this kit would make a great gift for the computer hobbyist.
What are the drawbacks of this kit? There are a few things I didn’t like, first was the speakers are a little on the cheap side for my taste. Second was the required multiple reboots required to set up all the software.
In conclusion, if you need great sound and don’t have Bill Gates budget then this is the kit for your computer. You will love the legendary Sound Blaster live quality.
