Pros:the taste, the feeling, the head rush ;)
Cons:toothaches, cavities, expense
The Bottom Line: Candy is always good...well sometimes it is good...well maybe sometimes....well o.k. every once in a while candy is good.
An Opinion on candy you say? Well my opinion is that candy is a very enjoyable thing at that I highly recommend it to anybody. But, before you think about all of the possible bad aspects of candy, lets go over the plusses shall we? The thing about candy, is that it can be intoxicating, and very addicting. Once you fall into the habit of eating a specific brand or type of candy, that company may have you hooked on it for a long, long time.
Take for example my fetish with Everlasting Gobstoppers. Now, these are candies with a hard shell on the outside, and a soft inside. They normally sell for around 55 cents, and I was stuck on them for almost a year. Everytime I was in a store I would need to buy them just because I thought that I needed them. Now, I really understand that I probably did not actually need them, but my mind was convinced that I did. That in itself is the major problem with an addiction to anything in life. Even if you think that you can get over it, your mind will do its best to try and convince you that you need to have "just one more piece." When I went to the dentist, and discovered that I had a cavity, I decided that now was the time to give up eating those gobstoppers non-stop.
To talk about candy in general, I would have to say that I am an addict in the worst sense of the word. When I say addict I mean someone that always thinks that they need candy, and has convinced themselves that their body actually needs it to survive. The whole process involves liking too many different kinds of sweets. I can sit there and eat candy bars, and starburst, and even jolly ranchers for hours on end without even thinking about it. Another problem with this, is that you have to fork out a lot of money over time to deal with this habit. I really do feel compassion for people that are hooked on expensive chocolates. It must be hard to have to come up with that much money just to adhere to an eating habit.
Now, do not get me wrong when I say I have a bad eating habit. This in no way compares to other eating disorders, with the aspect that if it seriously became a health risk to me, I could simply stop eating it. But, because the health risks are not evident (if there are any), I go on eating more and more of it. I am not over-weight and I have a good metabolism, so it does not show that I eat a lot of the stuff, but if you looked at my budget you would be able to tell that I need to cut back on the candy.
So, for all you other candy addicts out there, I have come across "sort-of" solutions that help to kill the cravings for more candy. Being active is one of them. When you are out playing a sport, or just enjoying the out-doors, you do not get the many urges to have a candy bar. Also, focusing hard on a task is another way to insure that you are not succumbing to the candy cravings. By sitting and typing a long Epinion, I am able to spare myself a lot of time away from the candy. Instead of eating, I am thinking, and thus far, this has been a good method for me to kill those urges.
So, with all that being said, I must say that candy is nice to have, as long as you are sure that you can control the moderation’s of it. Make sure that you do not eat too much, and make sure that you really like it and are not just eating it because it is there.
I do have a couple of recommendations for you if you do start eating candy a lot though. Try Twix and Caramello :) They are my favorites!
