I didn't buy my Donvier Ice Cream Maker! It was a FREE gift from Tavolo.com's clearance sale when I purchased over $100.00 worth of clearance goodies. Initially, it was supposed to be a gift, but my curiosity got the best of me. I kept it, tried it, and I really like it! Keep in mind that my opinion will be very biased since it was FREE!
This is a fun, family activity for children who are old enough to crank the handle. The Donvier Ice Cream Maker operates by spinning a frozen insert, filled with heavy cream and flavorings, hence the "crank". No electricity is required to operate the unit, although the bowl must be frozen. I suppose that translates into it requiring "some" electricity after all.
It's very easy to clean, I just wipe everything down with soap and water after each use. I also keep the bowl in the freezer between uses. This way, it's ready when my children start demanding ice cream!
If I absolutely HAD to complain about one feature of this ice cream maker, it's the handle. It does not seem sturdy. There have a been a few occasions, just as the ice cream was almost finished mixing, that I worried the handle would break off. It hasn't happened so far, but I think it's a likely possibility that it will.
