Opera 5.12 looks good, but I can't connect with it (Reply to this comment)
by neomartin
Last week I downloaded Opera 5.12 so I can check it out, and it looks good. However, I can't connect to any site with Opera 5.12. When I connect to the web, I use Juno Web. The proxy server settings are blank, but even when I specified the proxy server and its port the connection did not happen. I would like Opera better if I can connect to any web site. Is there anything I need to do? Thanks a lot.

Hey I might have missed which version of Opera you are using but for 5.12 in the preferences under privacy the field
"use cookies to trace password protected document" seems to save the password. Just like it would in something like IE.
See if that gets what you want done.

Thanks for your suggestions. However, I always have cookies enabled so that's not it. I have seen this problem mentioned by others (can't remember where) but have never seen a solution.

Thanks for telling me about the keyboard buttons for IE and Nav.

Thanks for telling me about Opera being unforgiving with HTML. I haven't used HTML since I've had Opera. However, when I've used HTML in the past to place listings on eBay I've found that Netscape Navigator is unforgiving as compared to Explorer, so I always used Navigator to test, knowing if it would run on Navigator it would run on Explorer. I'm getting ready to place some eBay listings in a few days, so I'll try using Opera as a test. Thanks for telling me.

Now, as far as email, I'm not sure which you use, but I can tell you I use Opera with Yahoo email all the time with no problems.

Some suggestions for your problems (Reply to this comment)
by benho
The reason you have to log in again is because those websites store your login information in a cookie. If opera doesn't support cookies, then you are out of luck. Try turning cookies on.

As for the buttons for back and forward, in IE, the backspace key goes back, and in both IE and netscape, Alt-Left arrow, and Alt-right arrow do back and forward. I hate using the mouse as well.

Nice to see another Opera User (Reply to this comment)

I use the FREE version, but not all the time. I use it to check websites I have created because it is very unforgiving of html mistakes. I also use it while just fooling around on the internet. The problems I have are usually with web-based email. I simply cannot get into my mail with it.

Your comment means a lot to me, especially coming from a webmaster of 45 sites. I was hesitant to write this review because I feel somewhat insecure about my knowledge of computers, so I'm glad it was of interest to you.

(I should have specified that I don't know a lot about PC's----I used to work as a computer programmer of IBM mainframes.)

P.S. Thanks for trusting me too.

extremely interesting to me. As webmaster of 45 or so web sites, it is great to get your unbiased viewpoint on an alternative browser. I often read about Opera in magazines but those articles are less helpful to me than your review.

Thanks a million!

Lee
