AmericanExpress is instantly recognizable as the credit card of choice around the globe. In addition to having an amazingly strong consumer brand, they managed to build their reputation as a secure choice for transactions, first through their traveler's cheque program and now through their online cc verification platforms.
And although Amex is the largest travel agent in the world, most consumers had no idea. Certainly the americanexpress website did little to help burnish that image. Until lately, however. Amex had built their own consumer and business travel website from scratch, with little success. It was well used, of course, as the millions of card holders needed a place to book their travel, but it was very hard to transact online. The site basically functioned as a brochure to push cardholders to Amex phone reps. All this was fine for American Express, as they've trained this phone reps well and they make the cardholders feel safe, secure, and special.
But the site was still subpar. A few months ago, however, Amex signed a deal with Travelocity for Business to provide an outsourced travel portal for all the American Express cardholders. Now you can access a simple to use (travelocity-like) interface that helps you to zip through your travel planning online. Some interface highlights:
Industry standard search and sort capability
Ability to choose flight legs and combine them to customize your itinerary.
Ability to see fully loaded costs for flights and hotels (cost taxes and fees)
Ability to build hotel air packages and save money
And for those who don't like to transact on the internet? You still have the power to talk with the great Amex customer service reps at any time by calling 800-297-2977 to complete your reservation.
Give it a shot if you're a small to midsize business that can use a hand booking travel!
