Pros:Small, light weight, HP's reliability, up to 4800 dpi.
Cons:Price?
The Bottom Line: This is a great printer. Its small, prints as good as other HP printers, has a battery for travel, has multiple connectivity options, and has HP's reliability.
I needed to replace my old HP350 printer, which has been great. I needed a printer with a battery, that was small, and had connection options. I choose the HP460cb printer.
Some of the following details are technical, but, if your really researching the different models, you may find information here that is very helpful. Anyone that visit's HP's website knows that it is sometimes difficult to find details.
This printer is very light weight (4.49lbs) and small (13x6x3) enough to fit in most notebook computer backpack carrying cases. It features a 192MHz processor, 32MB RAM, has a duty cycle of 500 pages per month, and has a 50 page paper tray. The printer will print envelopes, 4x6 photo paper, HP's greeting card envelopes, labels, and transparency. It prints in black and color.
The battery is an HP lithium-ion battery with an expected life of 450 pages per charge. From fully discharged, you can recharge the battery in 1.5 hours with the included 65W power adapter. The battery is attached to the back of the printer and can be removed easily if needed.
The printer features a card slot that will accept a CompactFlash, Secure digital, and Multimedia card.
The printer connectivity is USB 2.0, or optional 802.11b wireless, or Bluetooth via CompactFlash slot. This would change the printer designation from a 460cb to 460wf (802.11b card) or 450wbt (Bluetooth card). The 460c does not come with the battery, thus the 'b' designation. All other models have the battery.
The printer is simple to use. The print cartridges, one for black and one for color, are also easy to replace. The printer comes with HP's monitoring software that alerts you when its time to replace the print cartridge. It also allows other features such as automatic page completion, low-battery page completion, and ink saver mode.
The printer prints 17 ppm black and 16 ppm color, which is very fast. It will also print 8.5 x 11 photos and borderless 4.6 photos.
In my case, this printer is used daily in wholesale sales duty from a delivery truck and occasional home use. The printer is exposed to fairly extreme temperatures and dust. The last printer performed well, so, I expect this one will. The printer prints invoices for items delivered to retail stores throughout a two county area. Usually one invoice per customer and the occasional request for account detail, statements, etc. It is used monthly to print statements for around 200 customers, and will now also be used to print the envelopes for those customers.
The computer to which it is attached is a Dell Latitude D610 that is put into hibernate mode between locations. The printer is recognized and works flawlessly every time.
