| neilkoomen's Full Review: Sennheiser HD 475 Hi-Fi Stereo Headphones |
In my opinion, these (and similar-looking models such as the HD320 and HD455) are the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn. As a result, I use them more than my somewhat-better sounding Grado SR80's (see my Epinions review).
The Grados provide more articulate treble and midrange and also offer a more solid bass. But the Sennheisers feel better, and when I'm slaving away at my PC or listening to the radio, the Sennheisers are great. I tend to use the Grados more for "listening sessions," when I have time to just listen and concentrate on the music. But I rarely have time for that, so the Sennheisers get much more use.
I'm not knocking the sound of the Sennheisers; they're quite good and offer sonic benefits, not just comfort benefits. But the Grados do sound a bit better and are more revealing, as other Epinions reviewers have noted.
As Martine noted in her Epinion of the similar HD455, it's easy to get fixes, in case you have damage or problems. Sennheiser is a huge worldwide company that provides repairs and anything else you might need. Also, these Sennheisers have a modular design that makes it easy to replace the cable, if necessary. Nice to know, 'cause I plan to keep mine forever!
However, I believe all these similar-looking and -sounding Sennheiser models have been discontinued. Check at http://www.auctionwatch.com, http://www.ebay.com, and other auction sites to find used sets. Fine sound, terrific comfort.
