I have been using GoDaddy as my primary registrar for several years now. Between the sites I manage as part of my job, the sites I manage for friends, and my own personal sites I have 12 domains registered through them. I have never transferred a domain away from GoDaddy, mainly because I've never seen a need to. They have low prices and the service does what it's supposed to. Why would I leave?
I have used domains registered through them as parked on their servers with masked forwarding, though I believe I have all of them listed with their own name servers at this point. The domain masking always worked perfectly.
I have made use of the domain privacy registration (which I have never had a problem with), and I have taken part in the domain name aftermarket auctions (which are useful really only if you know a domain you want is listed there). I have not purchased any other services or products from them.
New domains are set up super fast. If you know anything about domain registrations, you know that most delays in domain names being recognized come from the DNS propagation that has to occur - when I recently registered a new domain it was active and working great within 1 hour of the purchase. I was amazed.
The account administration panel is easy to understand and simple to work. You can manage your domains with few clicks - change name servers, set up domain forwarding, change your contact info, and lock your domain so that no changes can be made (by shady folks).
Basically, all of the services I've ever purchased from GoDaddy have worked, and done exactly what they were supposed to.
For payment, you can use a credit card or PayPal, which makes paying for services a snap. (And there's no extra charges for using PayPal like some services impose.)
The prices are great. If you're looking for a lower price - there are some others that offer it - but in my experience they have not been nearly as easy to deal with. (I have been sucked in to some of those deals but have eventually transferred the domain to GoDaddy.)
I've only had to contact customer service once in the entire time I've been with them (because, as noted above, the service just plain works), and it was a very pleasant experience, even though they couldn't solve my problem. Of course, that's because I was a bonehead and forgot the password to one of the accounts I manage with them. Meanwhile, the email address I used to set up that account was inaccessible, just as I need to renew a business critical domain name.
This was my own stupid fault, but the guy I talked with at GoDaddy was really, really nice about the whole situation and offered ways to help. Since I didn't have the last four numbers of the credit card used to create the account (honestly, neither my boss or I could remember what card was even used), there wasn't much he could do but send me a form I needed to fill out, but he was very nice about it.
Luckily, I manged to find an old email with the password in it and was able to solve the problem myself. (Just in case you were following the story.)
Probably the only criticism I have at all is that the convoluted check out where they try to sell you everything under the sun can be a tad annoying, but you do have the option to do an expert checkout and skip all that if you're paying attention.
Other than that, not a bad thing to say about them at all.
*Update 3-11-06 - I had to contact GoDaddy about a problem with an order. I ordered their Webstock photography collection, and after 3 weeks had not received it. I called them (at 4 AM Eastern time no less) to inquire. I only had to make it through the menu to talk to a real human - and a clear English speaking one - no hold time. He got my info and was helpful and cheerful. He wasn't able to answer my question immediately, because according to the records it had been shipped, but he said he'd have someone research it. I requested an email back to let me know.
The next day, someone called me from the shipping department to double check my shipping address (somehow I didn't catch that they still had an old address in for shipping) and said they'd send another out to me at the right address.
Over, above, and beyond the call of duty I think. My screw up - they fixed it.
Once again, can't say enough good about them! :)
