The Bottom Line So many tragedies have occurred in the USA, if G-d is up there,why hasn't anything been done?

Today is September 23rd,2001. Only 12 short days ago,the world was forever changed,and it'll never be the same.
Please don't take this article to be bashing religion,faith or G-d but while pondering events of the the last 100 years,it just seems to me like there hasn't been much 'divine intervention'.
Take for example The Holocaust...if there were a greater being,don't you think that 'they' should have got involved? Surely World War 1,2 & upcoming wars(G-d Forbid) could have/possibly would have been prevented,if our trust in the Almighty had payed off. Overall,however,in today's world,religion is a really 'iffy' subject...some people are very religious(the terrorists who flew those fateful planes are alleged to have done it for their faith),while others are passive,and avoid synagogues/churches/mosks and the like.
Another example : the starving families all over the world. The situations in Rwanda,Afghanistan,Zimbabwe. You know,maybe in these examples,a 'greater being' isn't really needed. Ideally,prosperous countries could help out,and I'm not sure how much they do,if at all...but it never seems to be enough . If the Almighty were to do something,anything without our knowledge(and if a G-d/G-ds do exist,I'm sure they are at work,but mankind just cannot fathom their presence,their actions and how they've saved millions of lives,brought happiness and faith to the suffering,etc.)...the thing is,how would we all know something had been done?
The 'Attack on America' is just one more tragedy in America. How sad it is that some people are willing to give up their lives and the lives of thousands of others to make a statement. And now the Taliban and Osama Bin Laden are in a strange position. For one thing,Bin Laden is said to have hid in the mountains previously(where it's extremely difficult to get at him with bombs and the like)so there's no telling why he wouldn't go back there at a time like this. Another reason they're in this strange position is that,back quite a few years ago,the USA gave weaponry to Afghanistan to aid in their war against an enemy of the USA. I've just heard today of the many people in Afghanistan who own stores - about half of them have either closed their shops,or the others are selling merchandise/services at half price. And what about the poor homeless people? They have no money to be able to get on a plane and fly overseas as a refugee! How fair is it to them that just because they have hostile groups(such as The Taliban)in power/present in the country that they have to suffer the same faith? I do wonder. I've been told life isn't fair,but really...how can it be that insensitive?
The US has some gigantic decisions to be made here. We are,in all seriousness, 'making' History. The children of today's teenagers will not be asking where their parents were when Roosevelt was shot,but rather what Mom and Dad were doing on the day the Twin Towers Fell,the day the United States of America changed, and realized that the sense of security that we all had had before this disaster was false. America has been the yardstick by which other countries have measured themselves for so many years now,and we influence so much of what goes on today. One small change in the US such as security on planes will bring about massive change in many other countries. Countries like Canada,Britain(the list goes on and on) would simply follow America's lead...it's as simple as that.
