So many tragedies have occurred in the USA, if G-d is up there, why hasn't anything been done?

God Was There! (Reply to this comment)
by AinsleyJo
We're here on the third rock from the sun learning how to live more abundantly and finding out what works and what doesn't.

Sometimes, life works in a positive way, and, other times, it doesn't.

God continues to be there to help us to better see the positives that can be made from the negatives.

As the others have already said, we have free will, so He doesn't intervene in a big way on a regular basis--even though He definitely answers prayers and gives guidance on a regular basis!--but that doesn't mean that He doesn't exist or is ignoring us.

Very honest and thoughtful piece!

Blessings!
AJ :-)

This must be thee greatest piece of wisdom I have ever seen in here, and maybe even in my entire life. How inspiring.

Your review was also great, a true sign of the times. I felt the same way you did on that day; I felt the same anger the same disbelief.

I'm not a terribly religious sort, but I have my moments, and I think it's important to realize that things happen for a reason. Maybe one day when you're detained, or prevented from leaving your house when you want to, then maybe you're being prevented from being in a car wreck that you weren't meant to be in.

I'm probably the wrong person to answer your question-- (Reply to this comment)

as I'm an atheist, and have never found evidence of a God anywhere...

But I can see how a tragedy of this nature can cause you to ask some serious questions about your faith and what you believe in. The best advice I can offer you is to really examine what you believe in, think about it as much as you need to, and look deep into your heart, to determine what you truly believe. I think you'll find your answer :-) Remember: don't ever feel bad about questioning-- it's a normal part of human nature, and leads you to the answers you really need :-)

Rock on,

I'm sure a lot of people questioned God's existence, or purpose, after those attacks - thanks for sharing a very interesting essay.

But...

What would be our lives' purpose, if God stepped in and stopped all the bad things from happening to us?

Consider how many millions of people made it past that morning, realised that yes, life IS too short, and too fragile, and changed their lives or perspectives for the better. Consider that, it *could* have been even much worse.

My last thought here - When I bring my two-year-old inside from playing in the yard because it's raining or getting dark, you'd think it was the end of the world, by the way he screams and cries sometimes. When things like September 11 happen, I simply trust that, like my son, I'm simply not understanding the greater scheme of things - so I remind myself that life will go on, and that God understands his universe infinitely better than I.

That's just my $.02: thanks for inviting discussion on this one.

I think you (or Epinions) changed the review after the last time I read it. I won't make any further comment. I'm rating it Very Helpful, even though there really isn't a place for it.

Where was God? (Reply to this comment)
by AliventiAsylum
God was there that day. God was there that when these men of Satan chose to crash these planes into those towers they did so before everyone had arrived to their desks for the day

God was there when there was 20 minutes between the two planes hitting the towers so that many people left 2 WTC before the second plane crashed into it.

God was there that the planes hit high up in the towers so that so many people were able to escape who were on the floors below it.

God was there that these towers did not shatter and break immediately. His hands held them up for as long as he could that so many in the buildings were able to escape.

So God was there, if you truly looked to see him.

The Lord Gave us free will to choose what we will do in our lives, he didn't make us to be robots to bow down to his every command. When we become saved this is when God will watch over us, but it doesn't mean that we will be saved from devistation like what happend recently. God has a time for each of us to die, and when this time is up then we die. God saved many ppl that day and those who did die, I believe it was their time to go in life.

We can't blame God for what happend that day or any day before that. Those who do such acts like those terrorist done them on their own free will. This should be a time for all to see how powerful our Mighty God can be, and I pray there will be more ppl who will come to the Lord because of what happend that day! The day of Salvation is Today. Are you Ready?

How can God allow these things to happen? It's that thing called "free will" (Reply to this comment)
by neomartin
Many people at all times have asked themselves how God can allow bad things to happen. Regarding the events of 911-2001, it can also be said that God was busy saving many people-- each building of the Twin Towers had a capacity for 50,000 people, yet only 22,000 were in the buildings that day. 7,000 missing people may seem like a lot to us, but thing could have been seriously worse.

As for bad things happening in general, God allows each of us free will so we can decide what we do. Each act has consequences (some known, some unknown). No matter what we choose, God knows the outcome (think of a fork in the road and where each path leads the traveler). Every time we use our free will some outcome happens and God knows about it. Some choices are better than others, but God abides by what we decide-- we just have to be ready for the consequences of our decisions.

As for decisions made by groups of people, if enough people decide to act in some way, then God lets the group stick with its decision. However, the group has to accept the consequences of its decision. God knows the outcomes of all decisions make by all people and all groups-- the possibilities are infinite.

If certain choices are made, then certain consequences follow. We have free will to make our decisions, and God respects our free will. Even when bad things happen (as horrific as they were), things could have been far worse. People can think what they want, but this is just a point of view not many people consider.
