| cateyes555's Full Review: CD Radio/Alarm Clock with Sound Soother 20 and Tal... |
This combination AM/FM/CD player/Sound Soother is a nice idea and packaged into a small unit that is attractive and fits nicely on the bedside table. The price of close to $200 however leads one to believe the sound and quality will be much better than they are. The speakers are small, and don't let the Sharper Image description mislead you... they sound tinny... just what you'd expect in such a small unit. I ended up attaching small external speakers via the headphone jack just to get somewhat better sound. The graphics on the screen are nice, but the blue light is bright enough and the screen large enough that it's too much to have it on at night while you sleep. The alarm has a feature of "ramping up", ie getting louder every few seconds. Well, this is a nice feature if you want it, but you can't turn the feature off. If you'd like to just be awakened by a low level of music, sorry you can't! The CD player makes a fair bit of noise as the wheel spins... enough that you can hear it if the music is turned low. I'm afraid I paid for the Sharper Image name and not quality. I would not buy this unit again unless it was $50, not $200.
