Popular Products in Personal Care
The Bottom Line Sometimes, natural is just as effective as store bought without the negative side effects.

When I was a teenager, I had the typical teen acne that drove me crazy. I had tried the Oxy-10, and Clearasil routine but found that both of these products were not only expensive, both showed harsh effects on my skin. I have sensitive skin on my face.

One day, I read in a magazine about some natural ways to help clean and clear up my skin without the harsh negative effects.

Soaps

Dial-Yellow I still use Dial-yellow, because this soap has an ingredient that helps cuts, scrapes, etc. to heal up quickly. My mom was told that by a doctor. Yet, I never had any negative reaction to using it on my face.

Masks

Oatmeal After washing my face with regular Dial-yellow soap, I would take about 2 tablespoons of Old Fashioned Oats and make a paste. I then applied the paste to my face and let set approximately 15-20 minutes until the oatmeal mask had dried. I then used clear warm-not hot-water to rinse my face and then pat -not rub-dry. I did this on a nightly basis until I got my oil under control and then switched to every other day.

I found the oatmeal to be excellent at soaking up the excess oil without all the harsh chemicals of the processed creams and lotions. My skin really began looking better after just a few days.

Baker's Yeast After washing my face, I would take one package of yeast, make a paste and spread it on my face for a mask. Once it dried, I would use the warm water and wash it off and pat my face dry.

While the yeast worked just as well as the oatmeal, I found the smell unbearable. For the same results, I preferred to use the oatmeal, even though it was messier.

Witch Hazel After washing, I applied Witch Hazel with a cotton ball to my face.

This stuff burnt like crazy. All it took was one time, and I was through forever more with Witch Hazel. This solution is supposed to be a natural astringnant, but my skin and pain tolerance level is way too low for the burning.

I also learned to not hold my chin in my hand when sitting. This causes the oil from the hand to get on the chin, and causes breakouts and blackheads. The article I read said to remember that the neck is strong enough to support the head, and the head does not need to be held up-this is just a habit.

Hair

Conditioners

Egg I found two natural conditioners for when my hair was overprocessed. The first being a raw egg. After shampooing and rinsing, rub a raw egg into the hair and let sit for just a minute, then re shampoo and rinse.

The egg made my hair soft and not as fly away. Be careful to rinse all of the egg out, or your hair smells like fried eggs all day.

Mayonnaise-After washing hair, place a couple of tablespoons of mayonnaise or salad dressing in hair, rubbing in to cover, and then cover head with a plastic grocery sack for a deep treatment, or rinse immediately for a deep conditioner. After rinsing, I would rewash with shampoo.

This is def not for oily hair types as it will make the hair oilier. Also, if not rinsed completely out, the hair appears as if it has not been washed for days-the grunge look.

Teeth

The only natural remedy for teeth I found, was to use a baking soda and salt mixture in the place of toothpaste. I know that the soda tastes terrible, so I only switched out about twice a week from the old standby of store bought toothpaste. Also, it said I could make a paste of soda and peroxide and brush with that-but again, the taste is awful.

I have tried these and found the suggestions to be an effective means to clean my skin, teeth and hair without damaging the natural functions that are already in place.
