Protect your home theater system. Monster Cable Monster Home Theater PowerCenter Surge Suppressor HTS 850

Written: Feb 13 '06 (Updated Apr 26 '06)
Pros:color coded outlets - protects your entire system
Cons:None, unless you have more that 8 cords that need to be plugged in.
The Bottom Line: This is a very worthwhile product to protect your complete home theater/entertainment center

A short time ago, after going to a friends house to watch my favorite team on his big screen, I decided to set up a home theater system for myself.

After spending hours and hours researching tv's, speakers, receivers, dvd players, and the cable vs. satellite option, I realized that I needed something to protect my investment. The Monster Cable Monster Home Theater Power Center HTS850 Surge Suppressor was just what I needed. I picked one up on sale at a local retailer for $99

If you don't already know what a surge protector does, it basically protects your electronic equipment from increased electrical power surges. These surges are capable of destroying your equipment. I have been using this for over a year, and it seems to be doing the job quite well.

This seemed to have everything included on it that I needed. It has an 8 ft. long cord, 8 power outlets, 2 coaxial cable hook-ups, (for cable and/or satellite) as well as a phone line connection. (a phone line hook-up is needed for some satellite operations) It also comes with a bracket so that you may mount it to your wall if so desired.

This has a 2950 joule rating, as well as a $150,000 warranty for your connected equipment.

This also has easily visible indicator lights that will tell you if the unit is on, if there is wiring that is reversed, and to show you that the unit is grounded. It also has a reset button in case it needs to be reset after blocking a major power surge.

One thing that I like about this is that all of the outlets are labeled and color coded. This comes in handy if for some reason you want to unplug your dvd player. You don't have to start unplugging cords randomly, hoping you have the right one, just unplug the outlet marked dvd and you know you have the right one. The colored labels that go on your cords come in handy when you have multiple cords unplugged. The dvd outlet is red, so mark your dvd cord with the red label. Cd player outlet is blue, blue label on cd cord. (you got the idea) This way, when for whatever reason you may have a bunch of cords unplugged you know which one goes where. This helps a lot, especially if you have a whole "nest" of cords like I do!!

The Monster Cable Home Theater PowerCenter HTS 850 Surge Suppressor Protector will cover all of your surge protection needs for your home theater system. Great protection for your investment.
