Comparison of Zone lab to the mighty McAfee

Written: Feb 22 '06
Pros:See above
Cons:see above
The Bottom Line: Better than McAfee as it takes up less resources runs quicker and more effiecent. Although tricky to use and don't fully understand the rules it creates.

I ran McAfee security suite on my machine for a year and bought it for around £40 or roughly $60 USD. Seemed to work ok , however i once lost my internet connection due to a worm, this was fix with a winsock patch. This was a major breach of the firewall which was by passed.

Since this event i wanted to find a more secure firewall so i could protect my machine from such malicous attacks!

When my McAfee subscription came up I dropped it and switched to Zone lab due to the companies reputations for excellent fire wall defence. So far so good.

Pro's are:

-easy to install
-very secure
-takes little memory and loads very quickly
-contant virus and spyware updates
-combines all the nessisary secuirity measures to protect your machine
-menu systems are easy to use

Cons:

-seems to block trusted web sites sometimes
-pop up messages all the time
-does not protect against all pop up adds such as delayed ads.
-seems to only pick up spy ware once its on my machine rather than stopping it in the first place (although imnot sure how many it stopped before getting on my machine.
-i found it rather pricy at £50

All together a very good package although sometimes i think it has its own mind and creates rules without my permission, but i guess thats what you want? just install and leave it alone to do its thing, right?
