There it was, Valentine's Day 2006, and I wanted to surprise my Beloved Barbara with something special. She had already gotten flowers and candy from me the previous Saturday (our wedding anniversary is the 11th of February), but I love to surprise her. And an extra surprise at work is always welcome, after all.
So, it was 9AM, Valentines Day, and I was looking to see what I could do. My first thought was actually FTD, but when I went to their website and tried to order, I got a message saying that no further deliveries were available today, but would I like them to send a nice e-mail and deliver the following day?
I don't think so. A day late delivery? Were they serious?
So I hopped on over to 1-800 Flowers.com to see if they could help me out. And sure enough, they could. They had no problem making a last minute delivery, and they really impressed me every step of the way.
Ordering
Ordering was easy enough. I browsed for my flowers by special Valentine arrangements, but you could also search by price or style as well. Once I found something I liked, I simply added the item to my cart and proceeded to checkout. I had to enter my name and address and other billing info as well as the address and name of the recipient. A card accompanies your gift, and you can fill it out online. Setting up an account will allow you to store your information for future use, a very timesaving feature indeed.
Pricing
Flowers are always going to be expensive at Valentines time, and I suppose that's the one downside here> Expect to pay $60-$100 with the delivery charges (mine were $15 in addition to the item price, and this included an extra $3 to guarantee same-day delivery).
Tracking
I received a confirmation number that I could use to track order status online. I also received confirmation e-mails telling me when my order was processed, when it left the shop, and when it was delivered. (Of course, I got a call from Barbara letting me know when the flowers were delivered).

Flowers
Barbara received a beautiful array complete with fresh, lively flowers that she absolutely adored. They were elegantly arranged and included a few Valentine-inspired trinkets. The bow-wrapped pink glass vase perfectly matched the assortment, and Babs loves it. She tells me it’s her new favorite vase and will adorn our living room on a regular basis.
Overall
I was very happy. They promised short term delivery on a major holiday (for flowers anyway) and they delivered, big-time. I feel I got my money’s worth, and would definitely use them again.
