| thestory's Full Review: Metrokane Rabbit Corkscrew Wine Tool Kit |
It comes in a sturdy clear top and black bottom plastic. What is it? The black bottom refers to the lower part of the clam shell and not the dance that was popular in the thirties. That's the 1930's. The fancy case contains a foil-seal-cutter and the feature attraction, conversation piece "rabbit" also known as a fully leveraged cork extractor. It is called a rabbit because of the two pronged lever that the user depresses so as to remove the cork from a wine bottle. It is also useful to decork the plastic stoppers that are currently becoming more commonplace, and I needn't remind you they are stubborn.
If you volunteer to prepare wine bottles so that the wine may breathe and to relieve your host of the task, you may notice a sly look on the face of the person that invited you to dine.
You might innocently ask for a corkscrew. If, perchance, you are told to look in the left drawer and see the above described implement, don't falter. Be bold. Grasp the linear polyethylene container and and open by raising the top of the clamshell. The next step is to remove the smaller of the two objects contained therein. This implement is used to cut the seal that protects the contents of the bottle from being tampered with. Place it on top of the bottle. Grasp the bottle with your left hand and twist the seal cutter clockwise together with a clamping pressure. Voila!
The seal can now be easily removed, thereby revealing the top of the bottle and this allows access to the stopper (plastic or natural cork or composite cork. What will they think of next)?
Did you ever try to assemble a child's toy by reading the instructions? (Forgive me for digressing).
Don't despair.
Grab the device by the horns...ah! the ears, and place the sharp, lower point of the helix that can be easily discovered upon closer examination, and which clearly identifies this instrument to be a corkscrew, on top of the cork (damn it). Now, push from the top in a downward direction. You may be pleased to discover the formerly buried cork (there I said it again) to be, at this point, out of the bottle.
Do you thinks that your laboring through this discourse (assuming that I didn't lose you earlier) got you to the end of this procedure? Guess again. At this stage reverse the action of your hands. This should remove the cork from the extracting machine and will smoothly free you to remove the cork from the next bottle.
You may like this process so much that you will have to be restrained from opening the remaining bottles in the case.
(Some case).
Notice the evil smile curling almost imperceptibly on the face of your host. Hell, now you both can enjoy the wine, but wait 20 minutes to let the wine breathe.
