The Bottom Line Be relaxed. Study. Eat healthy. Don't cram.

What do you think of when you hear the letters SAT pop out of someones mouth?

1. Oh yes, I did quite well on them.
2. Oh boy, lets not discuss it.
3. Oh, I could've done a little better if I really wanted to.

Well, hopefully everybody had a 1. This review will hopefully give you some new pointers for taking the SATs.

Danielle's Thoughts on the SAT

1. SATs may show what your profession may be in the future. If you have a really high math score, you would make a great accountant. If you have a really high English score, you could become an awesome teacher, journalist, etc.

2. SATs don't show who is the ultimate "genious." I am an A and B student and am a HORRIBLE test-taker. SATs just quiz you on various issues and give you a score to compare to other people. Then you can take it over and over again to get a better score to get into a college.

3. SATs could be a good and bad thing. If you succeed, colleges and oppertunities will surround you. If you do bad, you will need to take them over and over again to get a score that you are happy with to get into a good college or out of high school.

Danielle's Tips

1. Prepare

Green and yellow rooms make people alert and ready to learn. Grab a few SAT books and look things over. Have notebooks, pens, pencils, calculators, etc. near by for any uses. Start studying for anywhere from 1 1/2 years to 8 months before the SATs start. Bad test takers - 1 1/2 Good test takers - 8-10 months before. DO NOT CRAM. Also, flash cards are a great idea for a study method. They are very easy to learn.

2. Books

A. GLANCE at vocabulary books. Go over tenses, spellings, etc. Don't spend TOO much time on these. People have told me that they don't spend a big portion on vocabulary and what are the chances of all the words you study being on the test?

B. Math. Go over your algebra, calculus, geometry. Learn how to solve problems, be familiar with shapes, know how to use a protractor, etc. Learn how to use your calculator before hand too.

C. Social Studies & Sciences. Read over various books. Find National Geographic books and lookover any interesting facts. Go over notes from 9th and 10th grades. Learn about various facts and issues.

D. Get books from relatives in college. My uncle just gave me a Business book and I find it so interesting. I reviewed major definitions and math expressions, etc, and am still learning.

3. Before the Exam

Eat lots of fruit and drink lots of water. They both get our brains working. One of the best fruits are watermelons and strawberries. Water is naturally healthy.

4. During the Exam

Stay relaxed. You can think better and won't be as worried. Stay focused. Don't let your mind wander on other issues. Concentrate on what you need to do and you will succeed. Keep in mind this test is very important. Also, remember not to spend too much time on one problem. If you get irritated, move on and go back to it later.

5. After the Exam

Think about what you have done. Do you feel satisfied with your work?

Best of Luck

Danielle
