Pros:it's really not just a greatest hits collection
Cons:where's All I Really Want?
The Bottom Line: Buy this if you're a casual Alanis fan and don't already have tons of her stuff hanging around. If that's the case, you already owneverything she's included except Crazy
Released in mid-November 2005, Alanis Morissette's The Collection is an eighteen track sampler of some of her favorite work in her modern era. It's important to remember that this is not a greatest hits album; Alanis does not include anything from her previous dance-poppier life, nor does she include just her singles for the radio and/or MTV and VH1.
Though The Collection flows very nicely together as a unit on this one CD, some essential songs are missing. Where is All I Really Want, a favorite Jagged Little Pill single? I guess I must happen to like it more than Alanis. Also where are: Precious Illusions, Not The Doctor, Can't Not, So Pure, more unreleased tracks (Symptoms mainly), and collaborations she's done with other artists.
The most exciting song on this cd to the Alanis fan is her cover of Seal's 1991 hit, Crazy. Alanis puts a lot of energy and emotion into the song and mixes her own style into it. I think you'll enjoy it.
If you didn't feel like buying her last few albums, and you weren't alone, you can get a slight taste of what your favorite Alanis has been up to since you stopped listening to Jagged Little Pill. Eight Easy Steps is a fantastic song, very fun, you can even dance (imagine that, an Alanis song to dance to!)
