Micron Mega 10-90 Hockey Skates (Reply to this comment)

The Micron Mega 10-90 Hockey skates were without question the best hockey skates ever made. Even though they only made them for 2 years (1991-1993) they set a new benchmmark in skates. If you were lucky enough to own a pair with the ultra rare experimental V2 blades (tapered to the ice) you were given a experience to remember. These skates were the most expensive skates on the market and made in limited quantities. Mostly the pros got them (Lemieux, Bure, Jagr). Very few average Joes's got to try them unfortunately. Micron was purchased by Bauer a few years before and one of the results was these absolute gems. Even all the high tech skates today could not match a pair of these for pure skating pleasure. Even 15 years after the fact the so called top Grafs, Nike's fall short of the Mega 10-90's. I have had over 10 pairs of skates in the last 15 years and none compare to the 10-90's. An added bonus to these skates was that under hard use they would still last 5-7 years. The quality was second to none. They had a special Form fit system different from the Bauers and a footbed angle that even Graf has not been able to re-create. They were not flashy like a lot of the new ones (most are grotesque)but left them in the dust in terms of performance.

Micron Skates (Reply to this comment)
by jandksmommy
Did anyone ever find out what happened to Micron? My husband has been skating (forever) and the last pair of Micron Lasr 5 skates he had finally gave out. (No amount of duct tape can salvage them!) I went looking but Micron seems to have vanished! I wanted to get him another pair of skates (or at the very least a gift certificate, since I know skates are a very personal thing to hockey players!) but Micron has vanished. In a google using Micron, Bauer came up...did they sell out?
He liked the molded plastic of the ankle on the Microns - anyone know of another maker with similar styling?
