Background
About a year ago, ProFlowers seemed like an attractive alternative to the local florists. They appeared to have great deals just before holidays, inexpensive shipping methods and a beautiful selection to choose from. With an attractive web site to boot, how could you lose? After having sent off my first order, the recipient, my beautiful S/O, was more than pleased with the flowers. The shipment was on time and the flowers were apparently beautiful.
Recent History
Recently, I re-visited the site and made another order. This time, the flowers arrived late but they did eventually arrive and they seemed to please the recipient. As I waited till the end of business day to receive acknowledge for the delivery, I realized that one should not have to wait this long to have their flowers delivered. I was somewhat displeased.
Great Experience w/ Customer Service
At the end of the business day, I called customer service not expecting to receive any reimbursement. However, an overly sensitive gentlemen I spoke with was very concerned with my experience and he refunded my order. Not only did he do this, but gave me a great deal on the next order. I was more than pleased with this arrangement as I knew Valentine's Day was soon approaching.
The Last Hurrah
This time, I was a little curious with the arrangement and shipment of the flowers, so I sent the flowers to my home address and delivered them to the recipient myself. I thought this method to be a little more romantic and thoughtful. This time, the flowers arrived with time to spare, but I was a little displeased with the quality of the flowers. Some of the flowers did not open at all and a few of the others looked a bit mediocre. All in all, I'd say half of the bunch looked worthy of having been delivered by a professional florist. Even still, they were shipped nicely and were definitely decent enough to give to the lady. She approved of the flowers much to my delight and loved the gesture!
Conclusion
The shipping when on-time is good and the packaging is great. The customer service experience I had was excellent but your mileage may vary. The prices are good compared to local florists but the flower quality may vary significantly as I have found through personal experience and other online reviews.
There are more romantic ways (and probably more inexpensive ways) to give flowers, but if your options are limited I would send you to ProFlowers or another online retailer. However, if you can, avoid this kind of florist option!
