I got the Oritron DVD-100 for Christmas this past year. I had been patiently waiting to get a DVD player. But, being a student, I couldn't afford the hefty price tag. My parents came into a pile of money around Christmas, and asked me what my "Big Gift" should be. They were all set to get me a Playstation 2. I told them, "No, It'll interfere with my studies, and Wal-Mart has a cheap DVD player, that I'd really enjoy."
I have been kicking myself for about 2 months now.
This particular brand of DVD player is utterly worthless. It's major problem, is that it doesn't run after a couple months worth of usage. It broke down in March, (approximately 2 weeks after I threw out the box), and I'm taking it back to Wal-Mart tonight.
The problem my particular unit is that the on-screen menus flash on and off any time you press a button. If that weren't enough, there is a nice solid blue line that runs across the top of the screen. A more patient man could handle these problems, but I can't.
Apparently this brand is plagued by these and other problems. A friend told me that almost all of the units sold around Christmas have been returned to Wal-Mart. I tend to believe it. Why would any good brand of electronic equipment just spontaneously give up after three months? I just don't get it.
Other than the fact that the thing seems to have a factory preset shelf-life, the DVD player works fine. The sound and picture quality are fine. Although, some DVDs' menus seem to skip from time to time.
I wish that this was a positive review. I really wanted this machine to work out for me. It doesn't matter how well something works, if it only works that well for a month or two. And unfortunately, this machine just doesn't work for very long.
