| dlstewart's Full Review: Febreze Air Effects |
My oldest niece has a guinea pig in her room, and you can imagine the smell if the cage isnt regularly cleaned. Thats when I was first introduced to Febreze Air Effects. Apparently cleaning that guinea pig cage doesnt completely eliminate the odor.
Description
Febreze Air Effects comes in a decorative spray can. This particular can is the Citrus & Light scent. The can colors are orange, white and a light airy blue. There are photos of orange and lime wedges and a lemon slice along the bottom edge of the can. The top of the can has a blue and orange plastic top with a plastic trigger. This plastic piece gives the cannister a contemporary appearance.
The advertising blurb is: Eliminates Odors in the Air Caused by Bacteria. Its also promoted as an air refreshener.
The can is 9.7 ounces, and the spray comes out as fine mist. Some of the cautions include information that the cans contents are under pressure. The product contains no CFCs, which can deplete the ozone layer.
Febreze Air Effects comes in seven fragrances. Besides Citrus & Light, I have also seen this product in: Linen & Sky, Spring & Renewal, Blossoms & Breeze, Summer & Splash, Meadows & Rain, Mint & Refresh.
My Experiences
This air refreshener is easy to use. Just squeeze the trigger while moving the can in a sweeping arc through the air. The mist comes out in a fine spray, though if I dont hold the trigger all the way down, the spray tends to emerge in a wet stream. I spray this scent in the middle of the room and hold the trigger firmly down so that a wet stream doesnt accidentally land on furniture.
Im careful not to use too much of this product. A little goes a long way. At first the scent is light and airy, faint in the air. But before long the smell intensifies, scenting the air with a strong citrus smell that is reminiscent of oranges. The scent lingers in the air awhile then fades away. I find that the smell lasts about 20 - 30 minutes. How long the scent remains in the air depends upon how much of the product is used. I err on the side of caution and only use a little of this product at a time.
My eldest niece on the other hand has a heavy trigger finger. When she uses this air refreshener, the room smells as if an orange-scented bomb has gone off. The scent is overpoweringly sweet. My youngest niece shares a room with her older sister ... and the younger girl dislikes the smell of this product. She will leave the room until the smell disappears.
Does the product eradicate odors? My oldest niece loves Febreze Air Effects. The guinea pig odor can become strong in the small bedroom the two girls share. She says this product eliminates the animal smell and will continue to use it. She has also tried the Summer & Splash scent. She likes it better than the Citrus & Light. I enjoy the Citrus & Light scent and have not yet tried the other fragrances.
Ive used this product throughout the house. A little of this air refreshener makes the rooms smell fresh and inviting. I like the scent ... but in moderation. I have even sprayed this in the garbage to help rid it of offensive smells, but this is only a temporary measure. The Febreze will not kill the strong garbage odor.
Im sensitive to some to some scents. This fragrance, as long as I dont perfume the room with it, agrees with me. I like the light scent. It does not make me sneeze, and I have no allergy side affects from using it.
Can Febreze Replace Lysol?
Personally, I will not trade my Lysol for a can of Febreze Air Effects. The Febreze product has a lovely scent that lifts the spirits. If one is into aromatherapy, then this product is worth a try. The manufacturer does not say that Febreze kills bacteria. It is advertised as eliminating odors caused by bacteria.
Lysol does kill bacteria. It may not smell as pretty, but I know Lysol works well at killing germs. The garbage pail is a good example of Lysol at work. Febreze was ineffective at battling the garbage odor.
Ingredients & Cautions
Here are the ingredients as they are listed on the back of the can: odor eliminator, water fragrance, non-flammable natural propellant, quality control ingredients. No CFCs and no phosphates are in this product.
The cautions include:
Intentional misuse by deliberately concentrating and inhaling the contents can be harmful or fatal. Some hard surfaces may become damp when sprayed. Avoid slips or falls. Keep out of reach of children. Do not spray toward face. If eye contact occurs, rinse well with water. If irritation persists, get medical attention. Do not expose to heat or open flame, or store at temperatures above 120-degrees F. Do not puncture or incinerate container.
Purchasing
Our local grocery stores and some department stores carry this product. It costs between $3.25 and $3.50 a can. The last can I purchased was at Target.
Summary
Im not one to use a lot of air freshener products in the house. However, I do enjoy the light citrus scent of Febreze Air Effects. I just make sure I use this fragrance in moderation. Too heavy a scent causes my nose to twitch, though I havent yet sneezed.
I hope you have found this review useful.
