Pros:Extremely light; Absorbs fast; SPF 30

Cons:Bad pump design; Too light for colder months

The Bottom Line: Good for everyday moisturizing in the summer, but if your skin is as fair as mine you’ll likely need to apply a heavier waterproof sunscreen at the beach.

My boyfriend’s mother introduced me to Eucerin Sensitive Facial Skin Extra Protective Moisture Lotion with SPF 30 and UVA/AVB Protection last summer. She lives in a small, rural community with a big beautiful pool that I love to swim in, but my fair freckly skin suffers for it. I’m just short of 30, so I’m beginning to worry about fine lines and wrinkles. I’m still mostly just preventing them, and I know that a good SPF can make the difference.

I’ve now moved on to the Dove Essentials for Sensitive Skin because it’s a little bit thicker and more moisturizing than the Eucerin Extra Protective Moisture Lotion. The 4 ounce bottle is easy enough to store in your beach bag, but a little too big for most make up bags and purses. The bottle is white with a peach ring under the pump. I thought I’d love the fact that the pump only dispenses a small, thin ribbon each time you depress it because I don’t use a ton of lotion on my face. Instead, I found myself depressing the pump over and over again to get the right amount, which can be a pain when you’re rushing out the door.

I wish they’d make the hole just a little bit bigger, as it does tend to clog and get crusted over with lotion when you go a few days without using it. The hardened lotion wipes off easily, but application becomes annoying when you have to worry about keeping the pump clean and then pumping over and over to get the right amount of product out. Furthermore, I have accidentally squirted this stuff across the floor and the sink during my pumping frenzies – especially if there’s a small amount of product clogging from just inside the pump’s opening. Ugh.

I will mention that the bottle looks almost exactly like the picture shown above, except that the red triangle in the corner of the label is now just the reversed triangle appearing beneath the Eucerin name on the logo.

The lotion is incredibly light and it absorbs faster than any other face lotion I’ve ever used. It absorbs so fast, in fact, that you may apply several layers in order to maximize the moisture and skin softness. Sometimes I feel like the lotion gets lost in the skin on my fingers during application.

The product is dermatologist recommended, non-comedogenic, and fragrance-free. It’s recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation as an effective UV sunscreen, but if your skin is as fair as mine you’ll likely need to apply a heavier waterproof sunscreen at the beach. It’s really best for everyday moisturizing on sunny days. I really like the fact that it doesn’t sting your eyes while swimming or working out. In spite of its annoying pump, I will probably use it again this summer as I still have the better part of the bottle left.

Smooth on face and neck every morning after cleansing. Perfect alone or under make-up.

Active Ingredients
Octocrylene, Octinoxate, Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Ensulizole.

According to Eucerin
Eucerin Extra Protective Moisture Lotion SPF 30 combines intensive moisturization with SPF 30 in a lightweight, non-greasy formula.
*Microfine zinc oxide and titanium dioxide provide physical blocks against UV induced skin damage
*Easily-absorbed formula provides 24 hour moisturization
*Can be worn alone or under makeup
*Fragrance-free, oil-free, non-irritating, non-comedogenic (won't clog pores)

According to Me
I do feel protected when I use this product in the summer months, but the consistency isn’t thick enough to feel like it’s working in winter. I would also say that the moisturization feels like it lasts more like 6-8 hours than 24. When I use this, I use it at least twice a day, in the morning before applying my make up and at night after a hot bath or shower. It is a nice light lotion to use after a moisturizing face mask, but it isn’t enough to use on its own if you’re spending the whole day at the beach.

Fragrance-free is a plus in my book, and if you’ve used other fragrance-free products by Eucerin you’ll know what to expect. The only smell is that of the glycerin used in the product.
