Good Basic GPS

Pros:Ready out of the box. No fuss.
Cons:Needs more sophisticated destination search function.
Magellan says plug it in and go and that about sums it up. I bought the unit at Costco ($500) and it was running after about an hour of searching for a signal. Now acquires signals rapidly and accurately tracks travel through the foothills and freeways I have used it on so far. The screen is clear and visible in all light.
My only concern so far is the ability to find destinations. The Magellan seems to take the entered location too literally. For example, in looking for Trader Joe's market the unit will list locations hundreds of miles away (and none closer) if the apostrophe is missing in the title. It seems like the unit should have some intelligent guessing function that looks for like-named destinations in the vicinity of the user. Once my address book is built up with common destinations then this will be less of an issue.
Overall, very good especially for the price. If you need a basic GPS system with minimum fuss out of the box this is a good choice.
