I've never used the service, mostly because of the 'Scary Part' you mentioned. Sorry, NO savings is worth that kind of blind trust.
My brother used once to fly from michigan to Florida, he got really great rates, but had to fly out of Detroit ( 2 hour drive ) and fly at 11:30PM, this was with 2 small children in tow.
On the up side his return flight was a resonable 5pm and luck for him overbooked. The airline coughed up another set of Round trip tickets and a nights hotel stay. So I if you can live with the trade offs it's a good deal.
Thanks for the review. Makes me feel better about not using it.

sumo sees the future (Reply to this comment)

I've never used this service. But, I know the day is coming. A few people have told me that the first time you use Priceline, they are more likely top accept your bid (presumable because they want you to believe in them and return for more).

True - no advantage if price is the same.
I haven't tried with advance tickets. Usually,
if I have notice, I'm using FF miles or other
discounts. But for the funeral trips, it was
great. For my parents, their cheapest quotes
on websites, agents and airlines was $2100 RT
St. Louis to Miami. I was able to get them
$315 RT fares through Priceline for flights
leaving the next morning.

IF you can plan ahead (Reply to this comment)
by colleenmf
I have found no advantage to using Priceline. I try to buy my tickets a month or more ahead. Once I have price (no tickets) I try to bid on Priceline to get them lower. I usually bid about 20%-30% lower because I feel that if I can't pick my times I should get some benefit. IT HAS NEVER WORKED! NEVER! Maybe I could get them if I bid the same but WHY? If I'm going to pay that much I want to pick my times, airlines, schedule, etc.
Great review!
