Naw, I'm just teasing. Consider it merely the ramblings of a gamer who let the world pass her by for a while (though I did play the Hero system for a while). I ended up knowing 2nd edition far better than 1e, in part because I actually took the time to learn the rules rather than just playing willy nilly the way we did as pre-teens in 1e. (Not that I'm dating myself or anything!)

But yeah, 3rd edition was definititely a good move for WotC, even though it had many of us screaming that they were changing our game too much. Well, OK, I actually liked 3rd edition almost from the moment we began playtesting the Forgotten Realms material, but it did take a while to relearn it and I'm still not up on all the differences between 3.0 and 3.5.

I can speak from 1st, 2nd, and heck, even 3rd hand experience on this! :-)

Maybe I should couch that by saying many players moved from D&D fantasy to other systems (and many skipped 2e completely), and of those who played, many less were buying official D&D product each year. This comes from 2nd-3rd hand info gleaned from GenCon seminars, and postings by Monte Cook and others. The sales of 3e were much higher then the 2e sales (according to 3rd hand sources).

Although, I can see your point that maybe "revived" is too strong a word (it makes it sound dead. Would you recommend "revitalized" or maybe "reinvigorated"?

What? You mean people had stopped playing D&D before the d20 3rd edition release? *boggle*

Well, OK, if you say so...

These sets are usually worth getting just for the miniatures and extras.
