I recently placed an order on www.oreck.com for their Oreck XL Plus vacuum. My husband decided to apply for their Oreck PowerCard to make monthly payments since the vacuum is so expensive (but suppose to be good). We received a confirmation email that our order was received a day after it was placed, but I was not able to research our order on their website until 2 days later with an order date different from when I placed it. A week goes by and it still states that it was not shipped. I emailed Oreck (as described in their order confirmation email) and asked for some clarification about our order. I received no response 5 days later, so I called their customer service line and could not get any answers as to why we have had minimal to no communication and it was not shipped out.
They did, however, give me several numbers to contact the business who manages their Oreck PowerCard. I called them and was on hold for 10 minutes & 19 seconds (yes, I have a timer on my phone). Then the gentleman said he could not find any of our info, so he could only ASSUME that we were not approved. If I had found this out initially it would not have been a problem. I didn't think my hubby would be approved because he didn't start establishing credit until he was 27 years old (yes you read that right) and we bought our house. I figured it was worth it to try and apply to build his credit but if it didn't pan out we'd just use a Visa instead and do monthly payments that way...no big deal!
I was quite disappointed and in awe that we did not receive any information or that Oreck could not tell us anything about why our order was in limbo. It seems that Oreck doesn't have that much communication with the company that is suppose to be managing their own credit line and vise-versa. I had even called Oreck back to discuss my frustration with a Customer Service Rep. Manager and I was transfered 4 times before I was put on hold for 6 minutes and hung up. I understand that Hurricane Katrina had disrupted their business. But if they did have good communication before the hurricane, then it would be more vital now to uphold their previous routine. I highly doubt that they are running any more efficiently now then they were before, and if they are then THAT is pretty scary!
My husband and I have (again) discussed re-purchasing the vacuum, but at this point I don't think I'd want to purchase a vacuum from a company who is THAT passive and uncommunicative towards it's customers. If I actually had a problem with the vacuum, I would not want to deal with a company who may or may not call me about problems that is has, ect.! Unfortunately we do not have any oreck dealers by us...so I'd have to go through Oreck directly. It is something that I do not feel is worth the risk for the investment at hand.
