Pros: Comfortable ride, nice interior features and options. Good value for the money.
Cons: Extremely bad rotors/brakes, clicking calipers, loud, sloshing gas tank. Brake maintenance cost very expensive!
The Bottom Line: DO NOT PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE UNLESS YOU DO NOT MIND THE AGGRAVATION OF HAVING TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE EVERY 3,000-5,000 MILES!
I previously owned a 2003 MDX and 2004 MDX, both Touring Models, fully loaded. While the MDX handles well, has a nice comfortable ride and excellent interior features and options, the brake system leaves VERY MUCH TO BE DESIRED! I owned a 2003 MDX for 6 months, before obtaining a 2004 MDX. The trade-in was the result of constant front rotor/brake problems, in addition to a faulty NAV system.
I had hoped that the front rotor/brake issue had been corrected by Acura. Much to my dismay, the problem was worse. To ensure proper front braking, I was forced take the MDX in for servicing (turning/resurfacing of the rotors), every 3,000-5,000 miles and also had to replace the front brakes twice in an 18-month period...none of which was covered by Acura. Another issue for me was the sloshing of the gas tank and brake calipers clicking.
After spending yet another $1000 on brakes and regular service in early February and having the rotor issue return yet again, I traded in the 23-month old 2004 MDX for a 2006 Lexus GX470 this week and love it!
If Acura would own up to and correct the brake/rotor issues, then this would be a great vehicle to own. To date, Acura has NOT corrected the problem through the 2006 models. I would NOT recommend this vehicle to someone who does not have a lot of time to take the vehicle in for servicing and/or who does a lot of driving.
