| 42ENGLISH's Full Review: Magic American Goo Gone |
I bought Goo Gone for two specific problems. I have just bought and moved into a house which I, of course, needed to freshen up a little, i.e. paint, fixtures, stuff like that.
There was a strip of wall paper at waist length all around my living room wall which I had to strip off so I could put a new paint job on it. It had been stuck on with the stickiest, gummiest glue I had ever seen and no matter what I did, it would not come off. I tried warm soapy water. I tried using a hairdryer. I even tried scraping it off. Nothing would work. There was also some bubble gum embedded in the carpet in the guest bedroom which I needed to tackle.
A friend of mine recommended Goo Gone and I was desperate to try something so I went out and bought a 16fl oz bottle from Ace Hardware for $4.50.

My Experience:
After going through what I had with this glue, I was not optimistic about Goo Gone being able to help any but it did. This glue was stuck on the wall in thick, hard globules. I started by spraying it down with the product and leaving it for a while to soften it up a bit. This product has a pleasant lemon scent and does not fume. However, a word of warning, once it started working on the glue, the glue itself started making hellafumes and I had to open all the doors and windows.
After several minutes, the glue softened somewhat and some of it wiped off but the larger globules, I did have to put in a bit of elbow grease to get it peeled off. The end result was great. I managed to remove it all with Goo Gones help. I washed it down after that with some soapy water because this product does have an oily consistency which probably would have given me problems when I started to paint. After letting it dry, I painted over it with no problems at all.
On to the bubble gum. This stuff was really embedded and I was going to replace the carpet but I thought I would give Goo Gone a try and see what happened. I doused the spot with about a tablespoon of the product and left it to soak in for about ten minutes. By then it had softened but I still couldnt budge it. I sprayed some more on and left it for about another ten minutes. That did it, the gum came out super easily with a small brush and a wet cloth.
This product does contain petroleum distillates so it must be kept out of reach of children.
Conclusion:
Goo Gone really did its job for me. I could not have fixed my problems without it. I like the fact that it has a lemon scent and does not produce any of fumes. The oily consistency, I should imagine, could be a problem with some jobs. I was amazed that it helped remove the glue because it was so sticky and lumpy and the bubble gum totally vanished. This product left no stains behind ( I would make sure you wash the area with soapy water to remove excess oils to avoid this) and it came at such a cheap price. It also did not affect my skin although it does recommend no prolonged contact with it.
I would recommend using Goo Gone for any of your sticky problems, even if it seems like an impossible task. I was really impressed with its performance and it saved me a lot of money in the long run. I am sure it will fix all my future sticky problems too.
