As you can tell, I was surprised by Skype and now even more so to learn that there is sooo many more options. Along the lines of community, however, I guess I am going to try Skype for now since most of my friends already use it.

Thanks for a great review. I've used STANAPHONE for a couple of years with pretty good results. Some of the best (and free) PC-to-PC video conference programs are CQPhone and EyeBall Chat. I'm doing a beta of VoipBuster and that also looks pretty good. I give poor grades to MSN Messenger. Yahoo! Messenger is good as a backup.

I know what you mean. Up until a month ago I was right there with you. To be honest, I was kind of embarrassed to be last of all my friends to even have tried it. (I am typically the one who goes first.)
