The Bottom Line Make sure its a fun enough excersize that you will actually use it. Also look at price, durability, and safety
A crucial mistake made by the average excersize equipment shopper is they forget the importance of the equipment being fun to use. Excersize equipment is one of the most wasted purchases. So many people buy expensize equipment, and 2 months later never use it! It's a shame, and I admit it has happened to me too! Here is what you need to do when you buy excersize equipment. Make sure you use the equipment before you buy it. Think about if your having fun when your using it, and if you would get sick of it afterawhile. Another key thing to do is determine what your fitness goal is, and pick a piece of equipment that matches that goal. If you wan't to built muscle, dont buy a treadmill. If you want to improve cardiovascularly, don't buy a bench press. Once you find the piece of equipment that is the most fun to use, and will most help you achieve your specific fitness goal, look into the company that makes the equipment, what extra features the equipment may have, how safe it is, and of course the price. I have had a bad experience with a company called "benchmark". In short equipment I bought from them was simply junk, it didn't work from the start! The real key is purchasing something that will give you the best chances of actually using it. I personally like the stationary bikes that have a monitor where you set a pace and actually race against a pacer biker on the screen. By simulating competition you have more fun and are more likely to use it. Any other things equipment might have to make working out more fun are big pluses and shouldn't be overlooked. If your buying a treadmill, look into making sure it has a safety card that you attach to the machine and your waste. This way if you trip, the card comes out of the treadmill and shuts off the motor, preventing injury. Also before buying excersize equipment look into belonging to a gym. I belong to a gym and pay under 200 a year, and have access to a pool, basketball courts, raquetball courts, free weights, and every peice of exercise equipment you could ever imagine. |
