Who will win the console wars?

The Bottom Line A war is upon us. Who will win? The consumers decide!
THIS IS A COMPLETE UPDATE OF THE REPORT I MADE UP OF "WHAT SYSTEM SHOULD I BUY?"
The gaming industry is becoming more and more popular. No longer is it a kiddy corner image, but now it's a more adult neccessity. Of course it's all fun and games, but now people throw all these different kinds of hardware at you. Go with Nintendo, or go with Sony. It's crazy and can take you forever with months of research to finally pick a system and settle down. Here, I run down all next generation systems, including the ones that have died down....Maybe making your life easier in the process. :)
Nintendo 64: *wind blows* This system is dead. Plain and simple. No more games are being created for it as far as everyone knows. Right now it's only reference material to the great multiplayer games that came out such as Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark. Coming out in or around 1996, Nintendo refused to turn it's cartridge based legacy into cd. This made the job for programmers harder, as graphics became a neccessity in the future. So third party developers declined on working with the system and left it for broke. Bummer huh? Especially since there was so much potential in it. (Rumored to be stronger than the playstation 1) Only go with this system if you are giving it to a younger kid from ages 11 and down. It'll be a safe bet for them.

Nintendo Gamecube: As sony executives said flat out, "The console wars belong to Sony and Nintendo." And that holds true, because Gamecube packs an impressive punch with some beautiful specs. Although the specs don't overshadow those of the PS2 or Xbox(or xflop as i call it) the Gamecube is clearly an easy system to design a game for. And the developers show this with beautiful games such as Metroid or Luigi's mansion. Although Nintendo claims there system will be for everyone this time around, I still wonder if the system will be for directed towards kids. Games such as Luigi's mansion and Zelda certainly show no maturity. But the new ties between Nintendo and Capcom is a good first step. Gamecube WILL give PS2 a run for it's money. Mark my words, and now they have plenty of third party support such as Capcom and Konami. Soon to be square?

Playstation one: Playstation one was the first step to change the future of gaming. Early on it showed promise with games not to far advanced from those of the Sega Saturn (Which fell into developmental hell and never came back), but over the years the games evolved into beautiful artwork. Whether the game be good or bad, the graphics were definetly a jump forward into the years. The games were all there, psone now boosting a 3000 video game library and almost half of them are worth mentioning. The psone had a 6 year life span, the developers squeezing every last breath out of the aging hardware even now. Sony is still showing support for it's system, and games still do come out. Some big names came out in this system not to mention the Final Fantasy series, Fear Effect and Metal Gear Solid. Any others worth mentioning? You could get a Psone but it wouldn't be to look forward to new games, it would be to catch up on the revolution you missed. But PS2 have complete backwards compatibility and can play almost any old psone game.

The Notorious PS2: Boy did we have a rough start. I'm a PROUD owner of this beautiful system. I wake up every morning and I thank God that I have this system. Earlier, due to the system cut during shipments, PS2 was the hardest piece of hardware to find. People searched and search and no one came across one. Stores ran short, and EBay sold them for as much as 1400 dollars. And people bought them...I think that's what Sony wanted. Complaints of glitches and mistakes in the hardware were soon fixed and a whole new wave of PS2's hit the markets and are now available everywhere for you to get one. Sporting a sleek look and a mediocre bunch of games, ps2 was sort of the loner. Then, now in September of 2001, ps2 is the most sought after system ever. The games really started to pick up (silent hill 2 and Metal gear 2 just to name a few) and a couple hundred more due out this year ALONE. Ps2 had awesome sound capabilities and has a built in DVD PLAYER which no other system offers on the market. Top of the line everything...Ps2 has a bright future with only Nintendo to try and stop them. But I dont see that happening anytime soon...

Sega Dreamcast:*More wind blows around* This system is less dead then Nintendo, but is almost going down the same road. Sega comfirmed not to long ago that they stopped backing up Sega Dreamcast and the last waves of games will stop coming after the year of 2001. But there is a steady library of games for the dreamcast such as Jet Grind Radio or Shenmue. And coming up soon is Shenmue 2 and NFL2k2. Sega in my view had a chance, but somewhere along the line...You get my point. I wonder how much debt they are in?

Xbox: Microsoft is a new competitor this year. Being funded heavily by computer geek Bill Gates, it's rumored to be a powerful system and this is true. But, as much as Bill is trying to push the system to be a gaming console, it's still a computer only smaller. I mean it's running on the same specs as a computer, but this means it's prone to crashes and other glitches. But enough about the negativity, let's move on to what the Xbox has going for it. Support for the xbox has been good, yet really quiet. 3rd party developers such as Konami and Ubi soft have jumped onto the Microwagon for some fun. The games don't look at all impressive, since we've seen things from the ps2 and gamecube we want more advancements. The xbox has a dvd player, but it has to be built separate and installed where as ps2 already has it built in. I'll wait and see, because having a rumored price of 500 (price should be around 300) i won't shell out the cash for this anytime soon. Rumors are strong, and i believe them...YOu can't just come out of nowhere and join a console war. No way....Even if it does have amazing specs that blow away that of ps2 or gamecube. It's how you implement that!

Overall: I say the playstation 2 OR Gamecube would be the way to go. Both are from top notch people who have been in the game for a while. PS2 has a whole lifespan ahead of it, and Nintendo is about to be reborn. Xbox is one of those systems where you should definetly wait to see how it does overseas. Happy Gaming! *Turns on Ps2 to play Tekken Tag*
