Pros: Sexy, easy to carry in pockets, aluminum casing
Cons: Read the review.
The Bottom Line: I'd reccomend an more stable, if not as flashy phone for anyone actually interested in making calls

UPDATE: First of all, allow me commend Cingular and Moto's EXCELLENT support. After complaining of issues touched upon in my first review, I was almost instanteously issued a replacement. I had requested ground shipping, but inexplicably (and thankfully), it was shipped next-day air at no charge to me.
My extreme disappointment with the reception (when I got any at all) has not been completely remedied, however. The phone still sounds tinny, and the earpiece volume leaves much to be desired However, my new unit actually makes and receives calls as reliably as most models.
As well, the software seems relatively stable and bug-free. It is, however, still slow to commands, something that is probably unacceptable in a phone that still sells for $200 w/o a contract.
Bluetoothing to my laptop is seemless and painless. I'm currently splicing some mp3's to use as ringtones. The internet function, which I mainly use for checking sports scores, is slow. However, I believe that it's endemic to the web service itself.
At any rate, I can put up with sub-par sound, a vibrate mode that I can't even feel, and sluggish software just to have a phone that's this freakin' SEXY.
(Original complaint):
Like almost everyone else, I purchased this phone by placing style ahead of substance. I was wowed by a very, very sexy form factor, and was impressed that, due to the aluminum casing, the phone didn't feel cheap and 'plasticky.'
For the first week or so, it even worked.
And then the phone needed an exorcist. The software is extremely buggy, and the reception is abysmal in places where my everyone's else's service is just fine. As well, the phone just shuts itself down multiple times per day, regardless of charge status. The earpiece volume and clarity is subpar for a phone originally set at $350.
I'm on my second RAZR and I am experiencing a similar set of problems, although the newer phone has additional personality quirks. Since I can only exchange for the same model thru Moto's warranty service, I'm opting for a refurbished one that has been inspected by a technician. How sad is it that I'm more otimistic about a refurbished phone than a brand new one?
One more thing - the people at tech support had the nerve to suggest that because I live in New Orleans, that perhaps that was the problem. Normally, that's a viable thought, considering the current infrastructure of my city. But every other Cingular phone in my household and at work can be used to, you know, actually make and receive calls...
For all its faults and bugs, I still have to admit that I LOVE holding this phone, just staring at it. If my 3rd RAZR, due to arrive any day now, actually WORKS, I'll be in heaven. Because I really am in love with this model. It reminds of most every girlfriend I've ever had...drives me nuts; can't get enough of her...
