Very tempting review, Kel! Thought-provoking and plot-twist-concealing at the same time - an excellent trick. (Although, to answer your question, even the good guys are NOT allowed to blow things up without clearing it with me first. That's the real reason i keep my e-address on the site: the reviews are just a cover.)
cheers,

For some reason, the comment I posted yesterday failed to stick (it's THEM, I tell ya!). So here it is again.
Solely on the strength of your superb review, I went right out to see this, and I can see why you gave it an enthusiastic shout-out. Bravo! I'd like to yell and scream about it, too, in bytes, but it shan't be anywhere near brilliant as yours is.
Thank you so much for this. And for the filmmakers who brought it to the screen!

I can't resist a film that invites this much controversy! I thought Portman was revelatory in Closer, but this sounds like she's really unafraid to take a chance for her craft.
I blinked on all your almost spoilers, loved that someone else besides me uses the word "doozie" and thought your review was fantastic! Write more often!

If you found the line about revolution and dancing soul thrilling, give The Magnetic Fields song "World Love" a listen.
"Love, music, wine, and revolution"
Certainly sounds like an interesting film, and your review piqued my curiousity.
Cheers-

WOW... I have always had a good susipicion that Ellison was a good guy and not into so much celebrity author BS and I am so psyched to see that this confirms it !! :)
And also a given because something I always talk about in my own ficition writing and critique and such is that there are still indeed only 12 basic plots-- it's really hard to convince me of stealing these days unless it's out and out word for word lifting of material.. :)

BassGuy:
Good point, however that's not going to happen. From Harlan Ellison's own web site, I'd note the following message from Mr. Ellison himself:
Alan Moore's V FOR VENDETTA has, for a long time, since it first was published, been a favorite piece of literature for me.
Let me hear no more silliness about source on this.
1) Alan Moore is a valued friend.
2) Alan Moore is one of the most talented artists I've ever read.
3) Alan Moore does not need to steal from me. Or anyone else. In truth, it is the rest of us who steal from Alan Moore.
"Repent..." is mine, "V..." is his: and never the twain have met. You may quote me. Widely.
Harlan Ellison
Obviously some points of similarity, but not enough, apparently, to tip the scales against a "valued friend."

WJ

That's a good point.. but I would think if that were going to happen he would have sued the fellow who wrote the graphic novel back in the 90' already-- no? :) Thanks for the reading and rating :)

I wonder if Harlan Ellison will sue (as he successfully did with The Terminator). The more I read about this flick, the more it sounds like his 1965 classic short story, "Repent, Harlequin!" Said the Ticktockman. With its clownish protagonist and dystopian future society, hints of torture a la Orwell's 1984, similarities abound, although the names have been changed.
