Pros: Great slide scans which you can batch scan up to 4 at a time.
Cons: Slow scanning. Scanner doesn't hold up to moderate use.

| dusty_sander's Full Review: Canon CanoScan 8400F Film Scanner (35 mm), Flatbed... |
This unit isn't fast, but the results are impressive. My old Epson EPS1200 scanner can beat it no problem (meaning much shorter scan time) scanning black&white documents with identical resolution. Color flatbed scans come out pretty well. Color slides come out great. If you have slides of your trip to Jerusalem or White Sands or something else that has a lot of white in it - beware. It takes a LOT of tweaking to prevent the final scan from getting very washed out. The preview will look great, but the actual scan will tend to be much much more whiter to the point that details totally disappear into whiteness. Slides taken under "normal" conditions come out OK. My other complaint with the unit is that after owning this scanner for 7 months and scanning several hundred slides, the scans now come out with blue vertical streaks. The scanning element has obviously gone defective and the unit will have to be sent in. The unit is still under the 1 year warranty, but you might want to check to see if there is a Canon repair facility near you.
