Don't get hurt on La Quinta's property

Written: May 14 '01
Pros:They have nice and affordable rooms
Cons:They do not take responsibility
The Bottom Line: If you stay at La Quinta try not to get hurt on their property, they will not take responsibility. They will not help out with the medical expense.

I stayed at La Quinta in November of 1999. And I was taking my bag out to my car, I slipped on rocks and gravel and I fell crushing my wrist. There were 3 maids that saw this happen but none of them spoke English only Spanish. They could tell that I was hurt so they took me up to the front office. The man behind the front desk (I've always assumed he was the manager)never said one word to me he just picked up the phone and called the EMS to come and get me. There was a lady that worked in the office that hear what had happen to me and she came out and sat with me, got me some water to drink until the EMS got there. Also she told me to phone from the Emergency Room when I was ready to leave and she would come get me and she did.
I had to have three pins put in my wrist, they stayed in for 3 months but that didn't work so I had to have a bone graft, which meant they had to take a bone from my hip and put it in my wrist alone with a steel plate. This happened to me in November of 1999 and I got my last cast off my arm in August of 2000. My hospital bill was over $27,000.00 when it came time to ask La Quinta to help me out with this huge hospital bill or at least my out of pocket expenses I was told no they wouldn't help. They said that they just couldn't go around paying any ones bill that got hurt on their property, I feel kind-of lucky that they even called the EMS for me. I tried to sue them but the three maids that saw this happen to me no longer worked for them, I think they were illegal aliens from Mexico and had gone back home. The lady that was so nice to me didn't see how I got hurt. I have wondered often why did that rude man behind the deck called the EMS, what if I didn't have health insurance and I'm thankful every day that I do have good health coverage or my wrist wouldn't have been the only thing broke, so would my pocket book but make no mistake I was out a lot of money because no matter how good your hospital coverage is they never pay the total amount. I was in so much pain for so long with this injury. After the bone graft I couldn't walk without limping for about two months. I think the hip hurt me more than the wrist it was kind-of hard to tell they both hurt so badly.
