I worked for K-Mart for a total of 7 years.
They do have some problems that need to be fixed.
One Major one being they will not hire enough people to work. When I worked there I was doing work that was suppose to be someone else job.
I had to learn to do everything in our Dept. Sometimes I would be the only one working the dept which was half the store(fashions Dept),from 5-10. ~Donna~

Thanks, CeCe!

I knew there were different names for different K-Marts, but didn't know the real reasons behind that. Thanks for some very helpful info.

God bless,
Mary

I would definitely have to agree with everything you just said (except for that whole A/C thing, which I've never had a problem with). Many items are typically out of stock (not just sale items), the prices NEVER ring up correctly, and, worst of all, in every KMart store I've been in over the past few years, there have only been 1 or 2 registers open, causing MASSIVE lines!

I hear Kmart is trying to improve their image with the return of the bluelight special, but I'm wondering if the damage has already been done....

I have found similar conditions for K-marts in the Staten Island and Brooklyn area, the conditions of K-Marts in the Central Jersey area were much improved with excellent stock even halfway into the week, air conditioned stores, friendly customer service (well friendlier than before), and clean, neat stores. I think in areas like NYC where it can be difficult for store chains to build new stores easily, K-Marts will keep their poor conditions since the competition isn't as accessible. Areas were competition can easily build a new store or purchase/rent a large building is where K-mart will face problems... but, the K-Marts in my area in that kind of situation stepped up to the plate and have kept plenty of customers especially when the Wal-Mart in Piscataway, NJ, keeps running out of stock on much of its mechandise.

Kmart has already gone down in Canada, a few years ago actually. Most were bought out by The Bay (similar to Sears) and Zellers (similar to Wal-mart). I think the the additions to Wal-mart's in Canada at the same time also brought Kmart down.
