Good Boots, Gloves & knee/shin guardsOct 11 '01 Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line Boots, Gloves & knee/shin guards are essential for dirt bike riding for your comfort and protection. New riders will feel more confident if they're wearing the proper protection. A pair of good motorcycle boots are essential for dirt bike riding. Personally I wear Fox Forma and they are very comfortable as well as protective. Alpine Star is another good brand. Good motorcycle boots are expensive but they are worth every penny. Your feet and legs are vulnerable to injuries from rocks, trees and even your bike. (I've banged my shin on the foot peg while attempting to start my son's bike without boots and I know how it hurts.) Gloves are also essential for dirt bike riding. Your hands get sweaty and tired easily. A pair of gloves will help your hands from slipping off the handlebars as well as prevent fewer blisters. Gloves should be comfortable with some room to stretch your fingers out, but not too much room. Knee/shin guards are just as important as the boots. Although your boots will protect your feet and lower legs, they only offer limited protection and no protection to your knees. A friend of mine was riding without knee/shin guards. She rode by a large boulder and ran her knee right into it. She was hurting for a long time. |
