I've ordered books and movies from Alibris at least four times. I've never had a problem with them. Generally speaking, the book prices are cheaper than you will find elsewhere; however, often an out-of-print book will be listed with a price over $100. I've been able to find the same used book on Amazon for less than $30.
My orders have all been processed smoothly with no problems in shipping. Items are listed from a network of small sellers like used and independent book stores. When you order a product, the order is processed by Alibris but filled by one of the companies within the network. You do get to see what company is filling the order but you can also see which companies are offering your product before you even buy. That way, if you've had problems with a business before, you can be avoid ordering from them again.
Alibris is a great resource for out-of-print or rare books, not to mention used text books. They don't have everything because it's dependent on what the companies within the network have to offer, but chances are pretty good that you can find at least three items for a particular search.
Even though I have a Borders bookstore locally, I still check Alibris first to see if I can find a better deal. Even though you have to wait for your order to arrive, buying a used book for $25 when it normally costs $80-$90 makes it worth the wait. Though if you're in a hurry, you can always pay for express shipping.
The only problem is finding the "log in" link. It's hidden in a navigation box about halfway down the page on the left. I'm used to seeing it near the top. The site navigation could be improved but it's not a major hinderance to finding what you want.
