A mistake that I regretted for a year - a recurring nightmare

Pros:None - you will be pitifully grateful if they ever get anything right.
Cons:Don't believe me? Please read the blow by blow account. You'll laugh, you'll cry ....
The Bottom Line: My own experience was that errors occurred frequently. When they did, fixing them, if indeed they ever got fixed, was time-consuming and frustrating. This is one to avoid.

When I purchased my mobile phone, I signed up for direct payment.

This request was ignored, and I started receiving requests for payment.

I called up on 28-Sep-2000 [representative: Pamela x1545], paid my bill, and requested again direct payment.

This request was ignored, and I continued to receive requests for payment.

The bill quoted an email. I emailed on 28-Dec-2000 requesting direct payment.

This request was ignored, and I continued to receive requests for payment.

I emailed again on 26-Jan-2001 requesting direct payment.

This request was ignored, and I continued to receive requests for payment.

I called again on 3-Mar-2001 [representative: Ryan]. I paid my bill in full ($216). Again I requested direct payment.

Not only was this request ignored (I continued to receive bills), but the next bill showed no sign of my payment in full.

My wife, unaware that I had paid, called Worldcom 27-Mar-2001. They told her (you guessed it) that the bill was not paid. She then paid it a 2nd time ($254).

And, brilliantly, despite the fact that they had fraudulently/mistakenly overcharged for my service, guess what ...

They cut my phone off on 3-Apr-2001.

I wrote to them cancelling my service on 8-Apr-2001, and requested a refund of my overpayment. I have heard nothing yet from them.

Except that on 27-Apr-2001 I received a bill from Allied Interstate Debt Collection services.

I'll keep you posted how the saga continues.

[All I will say is that my excuse as to why I signed up with them in the first place is that I used to live overseas and just didn't know. If only I knew about epinions at the time ...
