| junebugz's Full Review: Mr. Coffee 3-Quart Iced Tea Maker TM3PS - TM30P |
I like tea. Hot tea isn't so bad ... I mean all you have to do is get a tea bag and some hot water ... pretty simple. However, making iced tea isn't always so easy ... nobody usually just takes one tea bag and makes one cup worth to stick in the fridge or freezer, it just doesn't make sense.
Well, for those of us that like iced tea but hate the hassle of making it, Mr Coffee came out with the TM3 series of Iced Tea Makers. Sure their are different models available out there, but this model gets the job done and is cost efficient to boot.
I received mine for a birthday present so it didn't exactly cost me anything, but they are fairly cheap at Wal-Mart, Target, or like stores. The model I got came with the brewing machine, two 3 quart containers, and a 1/3 cup scoop for use with adding sugar.
USE
Using this tea maker could not be any easier. You take the basket out, pour water in your desired amount (you can use the containers as they have levels marked for 1, 2, or 3 quarts worth of water), put tea bags in the basket, replace the basket, put the top on, add ice in the container, add sugar if you would like, adjust the steeping dial and off you go about your business. Having the water levels and ice levels marked on the containers are very helpful in keeping the tea maker from overflowing. I have never had a problem with this leaking ... unlike the Mr Coffee ISX23 coffemaker we have.
It takes a little getting used to to find your desired taste. However, they do give a general rule for how many bags to use and such with the different quart levels. The tea maker is not burdened down with a bunch of different buttons. There is simply one on button and a light indicator which tells you it is on when brewing.
What's not to like
Well, to say that this tea maker is absolutely flawless would be incorrect. One thing they could have done with this maker is to have given it a little bit longer cord. If you do not have a plethora of wall outlets and already have a toaster, microwave, coffemaker, breadmaker, or anything else around it then you may have to move some to plug it in since you have to have it fairly close to the outlet due to the short cord.
Also, the tea maker is NOT dishwasher safe. So you have to handwash all of it. Be careful not to use any harsh cleaners or rough pads cleaning the containers or they will scratch. The scratching doesn't affect anything other than appearance. Use only mild detergent and soft pads or cloths to clean the plastic containers.
Bottom Line
This tea maker is worth the investment so you don't have to go through the hassle of the normal process. It produces good tasting tea once you find your right recipe of adding things, and makes sufficient amounts at a time. So, what are you waiting for, doesn't a nice cold glass of iced tea sound good?
Added Info
I was asked how long it takes to make the tea. It takes less than 10 minutes to get the whole 3 quarts. Unless, or course, you have to run to the store for tea bags or sugar.
