I agree 100% with you on the subject of the "cover" songs and the later renditions. I wanted to get a nice version of Robert Goulet's "If Ever I Would Leave You" (Sir Lancelot sings to Guinevere) from Camelot, wherein Goulet does an outstanding job, but all iTunes has is this cheesy lounge edition where it sounds like Goulet is in a Las Vegas theme show and can't wait to spit the song out, get off stage, and get back to the bar. No way does it do justice to the original and that's a cryin' shame. Some of the other stuff on iTunes is that way too.

I have been disappointed that the original versions of some songs are not available (later versions by the original performer(s) seem rarely to improve on hit songs from long ago).
