Don't Believe the ItineraryOct 13 '01 Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line Do not accept the tour director's list of sites unless you know how long you have to view them. My wife and I were eager to accept the itinerary for a tour of the New England colors this Fall. It included a tour of Nova Scotia and the return trip through Canada. We were told we would stop at Niagara Falls, Lake Placid, Maine, Peggy's Cove, drive along the beautiful coastline of Nova Scotia, and see Quebec, and many other interesting site. While the color of the scenery was magnificent, the ride was poorly estimated regarding the amount of time it would take to get to these sites. Further, it seemed the owner/guide was using Internet maps and brochure directions to find the motels and sites. The Niagara Falls view was altered unilaterally by him. He claimed we didn't have time to cross over to see the Canadian side so he drove us to the American side and gave us one hour and fifteen minutes... to eat and to view the falls. This shortness of time was repeated over and over. Driving along the coast of Nova Scotia was slow and curving. He had the driver drive so fast that a passenger became car sick. He then decided to take a freeway type of road leaving behind the beauty of the coast. As it was, we arrived at the motel very late. I could go on citing the problems that arose because of mismanaging the distance and time relationships. But my advice to anyone taking a tour is this. Don't just look at the itinerary. Ask about the time planned for the stops which lure you to take the trip in the first place. Then you might decide that the trip is well organized or not. |
