Pros: Cute design, well made, a great gift for Nightmare Before Christmas fans.
Cons: Hard to read numbers, strap is uncomfortable.
The Bottom Line: Carry a little piece of Jack and Sally with you where ever you go with Fossil's Limited Edition Nightmare Before Christmas wrist watch.

Strolling into my local Hot Topic I overheard one of the clerks complaining about her slacker boyfriend quitting yet another job. This is an ongoing saga at the store and plays out better than any daytime soap opera. That’s when I heard the words, "If I didn't love him so much I'd start selling his Nightmare Before Christmas stuff". I wasn't the only person that raised an eyebrow and approached her about it. At the goading of her friends she took our phone numbers and seriously pondered the offers she’d received. About a week later she said she'd had enough of him and threw him out ... and she was selling his stuff.. Getting the directions from Yahoo Maps I made a beeline to her place and arrived with cash in hand. For $125.00 I got this watch, two sets of Jack Skellington lights, shot glasses, action figures and a few things from The Corpse Bride. Considering that the watch itself sold for $120.00 [or more], I got a great deal. The ex-boyfriend, on the other hand, was irate that she sold his collection but hey, she said it best. "You gotta do what you gotta do".
Fossil Nightmare Before Christmas Watch LI2545
There are several different Nightmare Before Christmas watches from Fossil; these are fully licensed items that come packaged in nice tins or shadow boxes. When I bought the watch it wasn’t in the box but she said that she would dig it out and call me when she found it. Much to my surprise, there was a message a few days later saying that she found it and would bring it to work with her. It was in great shape and even though I didn't need it, it was nice to have to toss up on the shelf with my other NBC [Nightmare Before Christmas] items. If you buy this new you should get a small card with it that gives you some information about the watch including its number. This was part of a limited edition of two thousand pieces so you’ll know exactly which number you purchased. One of the trickiest things about buying this watch online is that you are never really sure which one you are going to get; vendors give generic descriptions or misrepresent things and if you are going to be spending over a hundred dollars on a watch chances are you have a specific design in mind.
This one is the 2545 that has Jack and Sally on the face of it with an hour, minute and second hand that sweeps across the face. This isn't a loud watch; there are some that have that ticking noise but thankfully this one is relatively quiet, so much so that I can fall asleep with it on and not have the second hand wake me up as it makes its way around the face of the watch. Fossil classifies this as a unisex watch meaning that it can be worn by women or men; I always wear larger wrist watches because the small cute ones for women usually aren't sturdy enough for me. It is waterproof up to fifty feet but home many times do you think you are going to be scuba diving or spear fishing when wearing this? Still, it is nice to know that if it gets dropped in water it isn't going to be ruined. This is another reason why I don't care for the leather band, if it gets wet it takes a while for it to completely dry out and you run the risk of the orange thread on the stitching becoming faded.
The limited one year warranty covers manufacturer defects but does not include scratches, worn batteries or broken bands. You’ll need to send the watch in to be repaired and if it needs to be replaced they will contact you if they can not replace it with the exact model. Since this is a limited edition piece chances are that if it is defective you won’t be able to get an exact replacement. If you are really in love with this watch and don't want to take the chance of it getting lost in the mail or held up in a service center for three months, take it to a local watch repair center and have them look at it. Be warned this will void your warranty and that is clearly state on the warranty card. Again, this is a limited edition piece so there’s almost no chance of them replacing it with the same identical watch if it is defective.
The strap is made of stitched leather, untinted on the inside and black on the outside, it looks nice but is extremely uncomfortable to wear. I searched high and low for a replacement band for it and inevitably had to make my own from some left over Halloween material. Eventually I am going to have this professionally stitched to my Nightmare Before Christmas jacket but until then I'll wear it on my wrist. Some people may really like the feel of the band but it was something that irritated my skin. The band is adjustable so it will fit almost any sized wrist but I would have rather it had a nylon or plastic band than the leather one. This does keep accurate time but it may take you a while to get used to reading the face. The only numbers that you can see clearly are the skeleton head [12] and the numbers 3, 6 and 9. Suffice it to say that this is something that only true fans of the movie and characters would invest in.
The Bottom Line
This is a nice watch but it is really worth paying more than a hundred dollars for? It does keep accurate time and it doesn’t have that loud ticking noise to it but after all, it is a watch. It doesn't store email addresses or remember your pulse rate, it doesn't show the date or time zones for thirteen different countries. This would make for an awesome gift for someone that loves the movie or has a collection of Nightmare Before Christmas stuff but the chances of coming across something like this in a retail store is next to impossible. Be aware that there are knock off watches that people are selling for the same price and claiming that they are indeed Fossil Limited Edition pieces - which they obviously aren’t. There’s no way to tell if a piece is authentic unless you can see it with your own two eyes and it comes with one of the limited edition cards showing you the exact number it is in the sequence. So it goes without saying that if you are going to buy this online, buy it from a place that has a good reputation or a seller at an auction site that has extremely positive feedback.
