Bluegreen Resorts Timeshare Vacation (Reply to this comment)
by mildred73051
Beware when taking one of these vacations. We signed up and paid our $ for a vacation to the Branson Missouri location. At the time we signed up and paid our $ we understood we would be staying at the resort. We did not get to stay there, but instead were put up at a Raddison in Branson and had to make our own way to the resort which was 30 minutes out of town. After taking the tour and listening to the info, we told our rep we were not interested, then we were offered a mini package. This did interest us as its price was equivalent to what we had planned to spend staying in a place like this and we were told we got 9 months of points use. Once we got to the contract room (with a different rep) and were checking the fine print, the use time started in the month the contract was signed (in our case we were signing up the last week of March) and it would be between 30 and 45 days before you could begin using the points. We knew the months of June, July and August were excluded from our contract use, but they way they were working our deal we would have lost the use of March and April and possibly half of May, leaving only only six and one half months left of use. When I mentioned this to the contract person, thinking they would extend our time of usage so we received the full nine months we were paying for, he said that was just the way it was and nothing would be changed. Needless to say we walked out and Bluegreen will never get any of our business. Compared to our present timeshare, they are high on their fees anyway. Just a warning to be especially careful to read the fine print as no one said a word about what we would lose the minute we signed the contract.

Supporting your arguments, good and bad (Reply to this comment)

While I believe that you did a great job backing up your awful experience of the Sand Dunes Resort, where you actually stayed, I do not feel that you represented your Bluegreen interaction quite as rationally & sensibly, especially when linking to the name of the Harbour Lights resort.

It sounds like you were definitely mishandled by the sales representative, with regards to the ridiculous waiver and name-calling and general condescension. However, you also pointed out other Bluegreen employees who did nothing of the sort, such as the woman who begged you to change your mind about the gift that they offered. I have myself witnessed demeanor changes in such salespeople after declining their offers, as well as having the delight of their remaining professional and cordial. Obviously, one is much preferred to the other. However, it actually makes me smile and feel good when I come across the rude, unprofessional, condescending people, because it just confirms that I made a good choice in not allowing them a cent in commission. I do now, however, blame the parent company for such a person's behavior, especially if I have not personally made a formal complaint and given them a chance to respond appropriately. Furthermore, I wish you would not warn against the resort property which was being presented, if nothing about the property was actually negative. Please put the negativity in its proper perspective.

Best wishes in your future vacationing!

I know about timeshares. I have been on timeshare presentations that actually treated you like a human. This one did not. And, if someone on Epinions gives a NH rating, they usually tell why. You did not. So, it lessens your credibility.

Mediocre Hotel - 3 Stars - - Underwhelming Staff - 2 Stars (Reply to this comment)
by obsessor-
I wish we had read the comments posted by the original author (2001) before staying here in 2004.

The Sand Dunes definitely looks better on the web site than it does in person. The staff is the same as in 2001. We checked in at around 1:00 AM and the desk clerk acted as if he was doing us a favor. Not even a smile when he handed my wife the key and walked away. She had to call him back to the desk for directions to the room.

In the morning we noticed that most hotel staff would smoke while working. And one time two staff members were sitting on the couches in the elevator lobby taking a smoke break.

The room was adequate but still has the lime, mildew and rust all over anything that has a metal finish. The furniture and wall coverings, including the cottage cheese ceiling, are dated. It looks like the hotel/resort? was a modern looking place in the 60's and the outdoor hallway carpeting smells like it. The restaurant was buffet only with a poor selection and is a tad bit overpriced, at $7.50 for adults over 12 years old, for undercooked eggs and potatoes. The mirrored walls give it a larger than life appearance and the hanging ceiling tiles are chipped and tattered and are held together with mildewed metal frames.

The beach is the nicest feature to this hotel and it is only steps from our room. The weekend we were there, there was a little league baseball championship series being played in town and the players were all over the hotel like ants at a picnic, without a parent or chaperone in sight. The kids were unruly, used vulgar language and were extremely rude, monopolizing the only shady tables near the food stand for an impromptu poker game, as well as commandeering all the condiments from the hamburger stand. These are teenagers, where are their parents?

The evening fireworks along the beach were a lot of fun to watch, and were handled in a safe and respectful manner until the little leaguers got into the act. They nearly lit a section of the Carolina grass on fire when a stray firework got caught in the wind and flew back in the direction of the hotel, and more seriously a bottle rocket fell over and shot 100 yards up the beach, nearly hitting some people standing on the beach. Still not a parent in sight.

After the rocket incident I called the front desk and they assured me that someone would go onto the beach and get the kids under control. Moments later a police officer showed up as well as half a dozen adults with drinks in hand. So that's were all the parents were, in the bar. I feel that the hotel should not have let the situation get so far out of hand. And still the kids played chicken with the lone police officer, lighting boxes of rockets at one end of the hotel while the officer was at the other end, all the while the now watchful parents not interfering.

After a couple days at this hotel and reading the warning about the timeshare folks, I think we'll look into other options for our next Myrtle Beach vacation.

Good luck,

Obsessor

a little comment on timeshares (Reply to this comment)

As you described your brush with the timeshare industry I couldnt help but add that "all" timeshares are that way. Its a sales pitch. For a free or cheaper stay they will show you what they have to offer and want you to buy in. I know this b/c I am the beneficiary for my parents timeshare.
My parents have a great time on their "free" stays all over the world but everytime you stay you have to humor them for 2 hours of different properties to buy into. Just fyi.

The big problem with all Blue Green properties is they cannot be sold. Once you buy, you keep, unless you are willing to sell an $8000 piece of property for as little as $250. Checkout Tri-West.com sometime. Tri-West is the company in California which promises to sell your time share and somehow never does satisfactorily. Check out their inventories.

I was on the phone with them when I found your review. I was about to "go for it" when I read your warning. I immediately told them I wasn't interested and hung up the phone! Whew! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Myrtle Beach (Reply to this comment)
by glomarrone
Hi,

We just visited this area and stayed at the Beach Cove Resort for $89 nightly. It was terrific in every way. I would not hesitate to return to this resort in N. Myrtle Beach. Sorry that your stay wasn't as enjoyable. Although our resort was great, I think the area is a little honky tonky and I'll return only if I get a really good deal. But, I won't be tempted by the Sand Dunes or Harbour Lights. Thanks for the warning.

See you again.
