| vrana007's Full Review: Sony-Ericsson K750i |
What you will get when you buy this phone:
Phone
PC suite with drivers to install your phone to the PC
Instructions how to use it
Handsfree headset that can be also used as stereo headphones
Memory stick of 64MB
Memory stick duo adapter
Data cable
THE PHONE (and me):
When I decided to buy a mobile phone I looked for one that has excellent camera. Main reason for this is its mobility it is always with you. You cant carry always your digital camera with you. But I couldnt decide between sony ericsson d750i, k750i and w800i. At the beginning I also was interested in nokia n90, but its price discouraged me from buying it.
Ive been in several stores and none of them had w800i. The choice now stood between d750i and k750i. I did a little research and found out that k750i and d750i are almost the same. Only difference is in their look: d750i is blue-gray and k750i is black. I also found out that only difference between these two phones and w800i are in memory stick. W800i has 512MB of memory these have 64 MB. W800i is more expensive than k750i (I live in Croatia, difference in prices was almost 1000 kunas, or in euros approximately 130 euros. And memory stick of 512 MB costs 400 kunas or 50 euros.)
My choice was made. I bought k750i instead of w800i and decided to buy memory stick of 512 MB (I havent bought it yet because there was no need
)
With mobile phone I also wanted it to have ability to play MP3s. With almost 100 MB of memory this phone satisfied me completely. I can put about 60 songs on it. The thing is that you can change the bit rate of the song and automatically song is smaller. When you listen it on headphones as I do you hardly notice the difference.
WHAT IT CAN DO??
When I first turned it on I was amazed. 262 000 colors on 2 inch display really look amazing. Lets talk about menu:
Download and T-zones are here the first two. They need Internet so lets skip them.
FILE MANAGER:
There is a movie that in short gives you the idea what your phone can do. Besides pictures, sounds and videos phone also has ability to change themes. You just have to download them and send them onto the phone using your data cable. Java games are also available. Just download them and send them on the phone and then extract and install them.
MEDIA PLAYER: this is very useful. Here you can make playlists containing your favorite songs and/or videos.
MESSAGES: Basic function of every mobile phone. Besides SMS you can write new mms messages and voice messages. Inbox, outbox, email are also here. There are several templates for your mmses. Settings for messages where you can change message alarms, voicemail number and so on.
CAMERA:
My favorite. 2 mega pixels camera guarantees quality pictures and videos. Here you can adjust some cool stuff like shoot mode (decide between normal, panorama, frames and burst), picture size (choose between large pictures 1632x1224 pixels, medium 640x480 and small 160 x 120, bigger picture needs more memory), to turn macro on or off (this is used to improve quality of the picture when you shoot close objects), to turn off or on night mode (improves quality of pictures when you shoot at night), turn on light (also when you shoot in night), to turn on self timer, choose between several effects (black & white, negative, sepia, solarize), white balance (best is auto, but you can manually choose between daylight, cloudy, fluorescent and incandescent. On auto its automatically chosen between these options. This maximizes picture quality in certain circumstances), picture quality (normal or fine), turn off or on time and date, if you want to reset picture numbers to the beginning and where you want to save your pictures phone or memory stick.
RADIO: here you can listen to your favorite radio stations (the guys in sony ericsson really thought on everything!).
CONTACTS: here are your friends numbers
ENTERTAIMENT: here you can also turn on the radio, play games, record sounds and if you are creative you can edit videos (by putting background sounds, inserting texts and so on), or photos and make your own MIDI melodies.
CALLS: who and when called you, who did you call, missed calls
ORGANIZER: is very useful tool. Set alarms to wake you up, run applications (only one for now here is HP print), view calendar and mark important dates and set up remainders, tasks, notes, timer, stopwatch, light (same light your camera uses), calculator (it doesnt work properly. E.G. if you want to calculate 2+3*6 you will first multiply 3*6 then add 2 to get result of 20. Here it first adds 2+3 then multiplies it with 6 and you get 30)
SETTINGS: everything else is in here. Here you can choose your language, turn on or off bluetooth and infrared, change ring tones, wallpaper and so on.
As I said I needed this phone to be my portable small digital camera (sure, you can buy Olympus digital cameras and always carry it with you, same as your phone, but for me this is better).
I take big pictures (1632x1224 pixels, normal quality) and I do not complain. Even in night Ive tried and succeeded to take perfect picture. Turn on night mode and light, with white balance on auto, the picture was almost as on pure daylight (notice almost!, but still you cant expect to take same pictures in noon and midnight).
Also, data cable makes the phone worthy competition to any digital camera. Take pictures, put them on the computer and burn them on the CD. It also works in opposite way. You can send stuff from your PC to your phone. Download music, videos, games, pictures and themes and send them to the phone. About 60 mp3s (with smaller bitrate) is on my phone and they take about 70 MB (several are on the phone, rest on memory stick). This is my private MP3 player and portable radio. If you want to listen to the radio you must plug in headphones because they are used as the antenna.
Battery life is considered to be rather long. Its expected life on standby is 400 hours and talk time is 9 hours. I listen to the mp3 almost every day and every day take pictures. I rarely listen to the radio (once, twice a week) but battery lasts about 3, maybe 4 days.
WHAT COULD BE BETTER???
Of course, memory. 64 MB isn't enough. They say that phone could be upgraded with memory sticks up to 4 GB of memory (the only problem with that is that there is no memory stick with 4 GB of memory!). Still, 512 MB memory still looks good with affordable price.
I didn't like the display. 2 '' is good, but it would be better if it was at least 2.1 ''.
Bluetooth conection with other (especially Motorola) phones could be faster. It works perfect with Samsung and other sony ericsson phones, but there is a problem with motorola phones. E.G. a file 1 MB large will be on other sony ericsson phone sent very fast, but you will see grass grow faster than transfer that same file on Motorola.
What you can get and where:
www.zedge.net - wallpapers, videos, pictures and themes.
http://maestro.intramail.ru/files/java/index.php?name=B games, but this servers is slow (1 MB file is faster sent from sony ericsson to Motorola phone than 200 kB file is downloaded from here)
At the end I can say that I havent made a mistake when I bought this phone. I expect it to last me at least two years. If I had to buy another phone it would be this one.
