Not Just Wine Tasting

The Bottom Line Spend 2-3 days in the California Wine Country

The most important thing you need to know about visiting the California wineries is that there is so much more to do than taste great wines.

A lot of the larger wineries offer tours before the wine tasting. The area where most of the famous wineries are located is the Napa Valley and Sonoma County area.

In this wine growing region are several small towns among the vineyards. The towns offer unique shops and lots of wonderful food.

Napa Valley has a wine train. You can take a half day trip through the countryside and eat lunch or dinner on the train and of coarse drink the local wine.

Calistoga has hot springs and you can go to a day spa for a mud bath and massage. There is also an "Old Faithful" type geyser.

Hot air balloon trips are offered in Napa Valley. In the town of Sonoma are a lot of shops and restaurants. It is a historical area and the Sonoma Mission is in the main part of the town and is worth a look.

I would recommend staying 2-3 days in this area of California.
